Anyone know the difference between 1814 and 1900?

really can't see a lot of difference.....1814 = 12000 BTU and stainless base, 1900 12500 BTU, both are single burner, both are portable

Is there any difference between the grease catcher being in the back or being in the front?

For me, it’s a lot easier to push the grease back instead of front. The back grease catcher just hooks on, and I think the front one is a little compartment that you have to pull out to clean.

can the hood be removed?

My son purchased but he said the hood can be removed.

Is the grill surface treated or bare metal?

It cones treated with a food grade oil that you burn off before your first use. After using your griddle and cleaning you should lightly coat the surfaces with a cooking oil to stop any rust. I have had absolutely zero issues and love my griddle!
