No, draws power through the USB connection -- if connected directly to a computer, draws power from the computer power supply -- using a powered USB hub (connected to the computer) avoids placing a load on the computer

Will this work with a dish network vip722k?

It depends on what your current TOS allows. It's been a while since I left Dish Network, but it was over this very issue (different HD). My suggestion: ask Dish.

I'm planning to use this to transfer my old vhs home videos onto. Will this work ok for that? Are there monthly fees on this?

The 2 terabyte external hard drive can easily hold dozens of VHS videos which have been digitized. The size of a digitized movie is typically about 4 gigabytes each. Once you buy the external drive there are no fees to pay to any one.

Does it work with backups on the wii?

I'm sure you could plug it into your wifi router, the drive would be recognized on the network, and the PC would back up data to there. I actually returned my WD because it was defective so I cannot answer definitively. However every back up drive I've ever owned was capable of doing this.
