If you have frets that hang over and are sharp to touch how do you use this file without scratching the wood neck??

Place tape between the frets, along the edges below the frets along the side of the neck, and along the bottom of the neck. Then you can use the files along the edges of the frets. It may take a couple of attempts to get used to it. Trya couple of frets at one time until you get the feel for filing the fret edges.

My G string keeps getting worn after a few weeks. Will this product help get the frets back to normal?

If the frets are rough, there are two stones of different grits, a fret rocker, and two fretboard guards...

What grit is the stone?

I don't have that information, but both are relatively fine. One is finer than the other...but, I polish afterward using 800 grit then 1200 grit emery paper
