Cyril R Salter Wild Rose Shave Cream

I will try to avoid the whole debate of whether or not rose is a masculine or feminine scent because I feel comfortable wearing it and my wife enjoys using this as well. As a cream, this is one of the best available.Scent: it smells like a fresh rose with just hint of powdery undertone. It is slightly feminine, but after lathering, the scent fades a bit. I've tried many rose shaving creams (TOBS, T&H, Mike's Natural, GFT) and found this one the most natural. My wife also loves the scent; on her as well as on me.Quality: this is where the product shines. The consistency is very light, airy, and cushiony. Compared to many creams, this cream feels whipped, which makes it an absolute joy to lather. Lathering is effortless and barely requires any additional water. Any damp brush will do the trick, but if you really want to spoil yourself, use a large, soft silvertip badger brush (I use a Rooney 3/3). The cream feels very smooth and provides the right amount of slickness without feeling greasy.Protection: I haven't tried using this cream with a straight razor, but I have tried it with several DE razors. The cushion is very good. I don't recall any nicks or cuts while using this cream. There was no skipping or premature drying.Overall, it's a wonderful shaving cream that doesn't get a lot of attention, but should considered in the same league as many of the top creams available today (DR Harris, Speick, Art of Shaving, Taylor of Old Bond Street, Geo F Trumpers, Truefitt & Hill).

This is my go-to cream. I have been using it for years. It smells great, lathers great and helps keep the face moisturized. Love it.

Priced reasonably this is a very good shaving cream. The rose scent is absolutely terrific! During the shave, this shaving cream worked well at providing a good lather that stayed well hydrated throughout the process. The lather provided a nice and slick surface for the razor to blade along the skin with ease. The lather did a fine job of keeping the blade from feeling rough on my skin, and I did find myself having to reapply a few times to go over the typical areas that require extra touch up with the blade. This is one of my top five shaving creams including (TOBS St Jermyn Street, D.R. Harris Arlington, TOBS Avocado, Truefitt & Hill Ultimate Comfort Shaving Cream).

This is a true luxury shave cream. It goes on without being too light and fluffy. Nor is it too thick, which would clog my Gillette Super Speed, Slim or Fatboy (both set on 9). The rose smell is pleasant without being cloying. My first shave was excellent with no cuts or nicks and very comfortable. I used a Gillette Super Speed Red Tip with an Astra Platinum blade. I would buy this shave cream again. Recommended.

This stuff lathers and shaves very well. 4.5 stars if I could but not 5 as it just doesn't have that smooth post shave feel like a tallow based cream or soap does. My face is just a tad "twitchy" after using this.

I was told that this is the "rose for guys who don't like rose." There is nothing different about this that makes it a "men's rose." It's EXTREMELY feminine, and on top of that, the plastic safety insert has a little hole and a crack in it, so now I can't even give it to my girlfriend to use because it looks like it has been tampered with. I contacted west coast shaving and received NO RESPONSE. I don't even want my money back, I'd be happy to switch it out but they're so damn strict it's insane. Not customer friendly and will never do business with again. I heard they're under new ownership and I'm not the only one who notices a difference in their service. Going to throw out this defective shaving cream now. Have a nice day everyone.

The Rose doesn't add up to the others. Not as slick and the fragrance is barely recognizable.

Roses are most definitely not a "women's scent" as men from the Orient know! This is a lovely, old-fashioned men's shaving soap, although it has the advantage of not being a dry, hard soap, but rather more of a soft paste. It can be worked very easily into a smooth, frothy lather with just a little bit of effort, and it makes for a silky, pleasurable shave abounding with the summery scent of rose. This is a perfect shaving soap for a relaxing evening shave, before heading out on the town.
