As others have mentioned, this is a spectacular air ...
As others have mentioned, this is a spectacular air conditioner with a few minor (maybe major for the price...) caveats. The first issue I had before I even installed the unit in the window was that the compressor was making a rattling noise, similar to a can of marbles. I went ahead and installed the unit anyways, only to find the noise persisted after installation. I pulled the chassis back out only to discover that the compressor mounts were inadequately installed: there are three mounts with a metal washer that is clearly not tightened down enough, this is free to rattle against the metal bolts holding the compressor down. If you tighten the bolts down slightly, you can then twist these metal washers to eliminate the play that was otherwise present. However, this is still unacceptable for a window air conditioner costing nearly $1,000. I called Friedrich requesting additional compressor mounts, but they feel that it is necessary to go through hoops and bounds having a service center relay to them the exact thing I described in this review to them in order to get the unit in proper operating condition. I will be ordering these mounts through an external source, but understand that if you buy one of these units that you may have this issue. It is a very quiet and otherwise well constructed air conditioner, and despite the lackluster quality control I still wouldn’t hesitate to purchase this unit again. Friedrich rebadges their lower tiered units from LG, and these are obviously genuine older Friedrich units that have been “updated” with modern Chinese parts and assembled in Mexico. The fact that another reviewer has issues with the unit holding its refrigerant charge throughout seasons concerns me, so if my unit works properly next season I will increase my review by one star. This is only used as a supplement to my central air conditioner in my master bedroom, but I still have high expectations from Friedrich and the price of the unit.As an update to this review, I would like to say that I thought about returning the unit shortly after buying it due to the issues I have had. However, after a while, the unit has “suddenly” stopped vibrating and rattling (I have rectified the loose compressor mount issue, but the interior grill still rattled badly.) Across from the room where this unit is installed, you can nearly impossibly tell that the unit is on when it is in low speed. That enough makes me want to keep it. I save so much on my electricity bill (ignoring the initial cost of this unit) as opposed to trying to keep my entire condo cold, and that to me is worth keeping the unit, mainly because of the silence and that the engineering of the unit doesn’t have a mere styrofoam baffle between the interior and exterior parts of the unit.

Not worth the money!
Very disappointing for a high-end air-conditioner, It lasted two summers before dying. It did cool when it work it just did not work very long. It is certainly not worth the money.

Probably not the best company to deal with. Warranty and customer service is sketchy at best.
My unit fails once a year like clockwork. It's always a leak in the coolant system that is covered by the 5 year warranty, but, getting it repaired is a nightmare and takes a month or longer. I am required to remove the unit (and temporarily cover the hole in the side of the house - our installation is through the wall, not in a window.) We have to drive to the closest repair shop which is 1 1/2 hrs away. We are not out in the middle of no where, but in the S.F. Bay Area, in California. The shop does mostly installations and is pretty busy. It takes about 2 weeks to diagnose and another 2 weeks to do the paperwork and get the parts through Friedrich. Then I have to drive back, pick it up and reinstall the unit. Basically 6 hrs. driving and a month without AC.The last go around, the AC shop suggested I call Friedrich for a new unit as this one had been in for repair a few times now and the part needed was on back order. I stated with a call. Got a person in customer service to assist. She had me put together a list of items and e-mail them to her. It was a lot of hoops to jump through, but, I needed a working AC. Everything was sent in and I never heard back from her and could not ever get in touch with her again. She was either on the other line or away and never returned e-mails. I started the process with another rep. Sent in all my paperwork and got the exact results, no call back, e-mails or anything. I've been in loops like this before with customer service of other companies before. I gave up with dealing with customer service.Back to dealing with the shop (who are really good people) but they are in the same loop, no idea when the replacement part will come in.I can wait this out, but I have a feeling by the time this is resolved, the hot season will be over for this year and we'll just start up again with the same kind of problem next year.OR, I can buy a new Friedrich unit that will fit my existing opening, even though the one I have is under warranty.OR, buy a different unit from another company, who hopefully has a more reliable unit and will actually honor their warranty, but I'll need to absorb the cost of reframing an opening in our wall as the sleeves are different per manufacturer.I'm very disappointed, I feel like I made a very costly mistake going with Friedrich. 5,800 BTU - ENERGY STAR - 115 volt - 12.3 EER Kuhl Series Room Air Conditioner Update: Finally got Friedrich attention, I sent a Letter of Demand as a prelim to litigation. The part to repair my unit is still on back order. My unit went in on May 15, it is now July 16. They have agreed to send me a new unit. I have requested that it be a different model, if there are no replacement parts available for the unit I have, I really don't want to go through this again, especially if it's out of warranty. For $100 they are upgrading me to the next model. I have no idea if this pattern of failure or lack of replacement parts is consistent through out their entire line, but I guess I'll find out! The new unit has still not arrived. I am hoping the replacement part will eventually show up for the unit in the shop and I can get it repaired. This way if the new unit fails, I'll have a replacement to use while it's being repaired. I won't mind waiting 2 + months if I have something to use in its place.Update: Finally got the original unit back on 9/1/17. Apparently there were 2 parts that needed to be replaced and both were on back order. 3 1/2 months for repair.

Searching for peace and quiet.
Searching for peace and quiet. Ok so i'm in the HVAC industry and unfortunately have to use window units in my apartment. I had been searching for a quiet unit for the bedroom and had tried the Frigidaire widow ACs, which are good but mad a lot of noise, which is typical for window units.I did quite a bit of research before getting this unit (even went into a store to listen to one), and decided to try it. I can say that we are really happy with this AC! It is the quietest window unit I have tried so far! Our bed is close to the window that has this AC and we are able to sleep well with it running. One has to be mindful of the installation and it may rattle a bit on start up (the unit is well designed, but the front cover, if it's not properly seated, will cause some noise; I was able to correct it and it runs quiet). Once it's running it's nice and quiet and cool! On fan alone (at the lower speed) it's perfect white noise to drown out the city noise. For a window unit this is the best! All window ACs make noise--it's in the nature of the way they are designed. A ductless split is the quietest system i have installed, but I couldn't do that in this situation. Friedrich has done a good job of building this one, nice quality and worth the price.
