How long would it last

Not actually sure but if properly taken care of I would suppose many years under normal conditions. I expect to get a lifetime out of the knives I bought from this vendor. I have 3 different knifes all are of the highest quality. ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Can the hanging ring be removed easily? It would be too long for my drawer.

The ring cap screws onto a through bolt through handle. Can't remove ring or cap, as handle won't stay on. I keep mine in the original box and store in bottom drawer.

is 12" oval rod's surface coated with diamond dust or is it plain chrome plated steel?

I think it is, I have an old steel that is regular and it looks different than than the one ur asking about and the new one works a lot better and faster just 2 or 3 strokes on each side and its razor sharp, everything was in Japanese so I can't go by that, I am 90 percent sure that it is diamond coated, sorry I can't be 100 but that wouldn't be honest.
