OMG! The best present for a grandson and ham radio grandpop!
This is the best present I could imagine. My 5 year old grandson and I spent hours building one project after another that night - basic lights with switches, alarms with different volumes etc. from the first section. When I came to drive him to pre-school, I discovered he'd gotten his papa up at 6AM to build more. That night after school, we built an AM radio and the wireless microphone. Too bad one must disassemble one project to build another. The organization, color coding and numbering is wonderful, and encourages putting all pieces back into their plastic wells before beginning the next project. This 76 year old ham radio operator remembers from the 1950s when we stripped down old radios for their components and took days - weeks - to build a radio from the ARRL handbook or Popular Electronics.I can't recommend this enough! It is great!

Great projects and value for homeschooling or kids bored with test-focused learning!
I wasn’t sure if a seven-year-old girl would be interested in something like this, but my daughter is smart and interested in all sorts of things so I gave it a shot. I was expecting her to follow a couple things and get bored with it and put it away for later, but she has favorite projects that she will put together over and over and when I was trying to show her how to do some things different that weren’t in the book, she pointed out why it wouldn’t work. I said, “ Trust me, and just watch.“ It didn’t work. And for the reason she said it wouldn’t work. I have to say, I am impressed with the quality for the price. I actually added the $65 higher level one to my shopping cart and my wife told me I had to wait. If you have a kid that is interested in learning on their own, especially if they are homeschooled or bored with school work, I would recommend this.

I have to admit - it's better than I expected.
We gave this to a very bright 7 year old last year for Christmas... he asked for it, and I was more than happy to lure another young mind to the dark side. This year he's asking for an expansion pack, and still putting projects together. His younger brother wants his own set, too. It's a hit. From the adult perspective, this is some very, very basic stuff. I found myself wishing for a little more theory in the instruction book, but I remind myself that this is the very basic entry level kit intended for young kids. Even so, he's starting to figure out the very general ideas about how some of this stuff works.

Great buy for a 7 year-old interested in Legos but could use something more engaging!
I am a nanny and bought this for my 7 year old boy that is somewhat interested in robotics. He's really into Legos and building things but I wanted something that he could use more than just the one time that you typically build a Lego set before it sits around. I had a hard time deciding whether to buy this or the junior circuit set because this says it's for ages 8 and up but I'm glad I got this one! I'm also fresh out of high school so I've recently used circuit sets in my physics class and dreaded them so I was worried as to whether or not he would enjoy this enough as a toy. I was way off base! We spent 10 hours just playing with this toy alone and barely made a dent in all of the 300+ projects available to build! At 19 I even genuinely enjoyed all of the projects we built! The instructions are fairly clear to build each of the projects but I think reading the paragraphs in order to understand the science behind each one went a little over his head at 7. Even after he read the paragraphs, he didn't understand most of them. Overall I think it was a great buy and he absolutely loved it! This will definitely keep him busy for a long time and it will be hard to get bored of with all of the options available!

Reviewed as a gift for 4 year old
First, yes I know this set says it's for ages 8-108. However, my 4-year old is OBSESSED with electronics and kept trying to play with my arduino stuff. This seemed like a safer option, so I purchased it for them and will be reviewing this from that perspective, should you have a similarly ambitious preschooler that is no longer satisfied with Code-a-pillar.Pros:* Physical form - this is perfect for little hands. Check out my photo of the resistor, with a regular size coffee mug for scale. The snaps can be a little "sticky" which sometimes presents a challenge but not a biggie. My kid definitely needed my help getting pieces apart sometimes, but putting pieces on was pretty easy for them.* Quick-win projects - being able to light up a light or make a fan go with relatively low effort was a big plus.* Modular - love that we can get more of these kits and combine them. There's also a pretty active community creating new projects, so google "snap circuit builds" if you run out of projects and want to see some more cool stuff you can do.Cons:* Why are so many of these projects "war" and "bombing" and "battle"? This was honestly the biggest turn-off of this kit for me. Like can we just not? Can we just build some cool stuff?* Instructions are definitely for bigger kids. See my photos - this is not a fault of the product. They're clear, and good illustrations, but my kid isn't yet advanced enough to really understand the differences between all the numbers in the image - so they didn't really get that there's an order of operations. With me helping they got it, but particularly for the more complex projects, I basically had to build it -- which I had expected, but hopefully the images here will give you an idea of what you are dealing with so you can decide if you're up for it.* Mostly loud sounds and lights. This was my own fault for not looking more closely at what was in this set, so this might be a *pro* for you. For my loud-noise-hating kid, this was a bit of a con as they really wanted more projects involving motion.* A lot of projects with subtle differences - I hesitate to call this a con because I think it's super cool that they show things like say, what an AND entails vs an OR, but the distinctions are too subtle for my kid to care. That said when kiddo gets a little older I suspect this set will get some new life as they begin to realize what these other projects are teaching. All in all I still give this 5 stars because it's a great product for getting kids into electronics and we'll definitely get a lot of life out of this. And, let's be real, I am enjoying it too.

Completely captivating – this was a big hit this Christmas!
This turned out to be a fantastic gift – our 7-year-old nephew opened this gift on Christmas Eve and absolutely loved the snap circuit projects. He’d finish one, get excited about the results (lights, fans, music, siren, etc.) and want to move on to the next project immediately. It’s a wonderful contraption for cultivating reading and comprehension skills (following detailed instructions), dexterity, patience, and even for building self-confidence. If he missed any components during assembly, the resulting structure wouldn’t respond as expected – so ‘back to the drawing board’ until he achieved the expected effect. We were surprised at how our nephew was immediately drawn into the circuit board tasks – he was so enthusiastic and genuinely excited to build something that lit up, powered a fan or light, or triggered a siren. He said it was “awesome!” but more importantly he showed it was awesome by completing ten or eleven projects in a row, immediately after opening it.I would recommend that you don’t just leave a child to figure it out alone, when it’s first opened. I attribute some of our nephew’s excitement to the fact that his uncle spent a good twenty minutes with him guiding him through the initial projects to ensure his success. It really just fueled his enthusiasm and then he happily worked independently and was thrilled to show off the results of each project. The Elenco snap circuits are truly captivating; they are entertaining while offering a unique learning experience. A couple hours after opening it, our nephew matter-of-factly said, ‘I’ll probably be an electronics engineer when I grow up” and then he proceeded to explain how he thought he could use electronics to work in a bank…. so it definitely fired up his imagination in addition to stretching his attention span. With these results, it’s easy to highly recommend the Elenco Snap Circuits.Tip: Two AA batteries are required and not included; so if you're gifting this, I'd recommend opening the box and including the batteries so it can be enjoyed as soon as it's opened.

Snap and Go STEM
The media could not be loaded. I picked this up for my 9-year old daughter who has shown an interest in STEM and she has had lots of fun with this kit. Building is literally a snap. Each of the 100 projects is illustrated in colour, and has a write-up about what principle is being shown. After she builds a project and tries it out, she records her observations in the project book. She also enjoys going off-book and experimenting to discover what changes to the circuit will do.The kit has a range of options, including a motor, LED, a speaker and several sound producing ICs (I added a photo of the parts list so you can see everything that is included). Our box came with a missing wire segment, but customer support at Elenco was responsive and shipped us a replacement piece. This kit brings me back to the old RS electronic lab kits, but with a modern revamp that is easier to build and troubleshoot. It's a fun way to educate and to pass on some personal electronics knowledge at the same time.

Awesome toy - A bit too much for our 6 year old.
Awesome toy. So, lets get this out of the way. I know (and knew) the box says for 8 to 108 year olds. But many reviewers of the toy suggested it is suitable for younger children so I took a gamble on getting it for our 6 year old's 6th birthday. He is an inquisitive boy and he DID find it fascinating, but also frustrating. So long as we adults guide him through it he enjoyed it, but its too much for even a smart 6 year old to do on his/her own. Or at least our 6 year old who is very clever. I still don't regret getting it because I think its something he will grow into over time, but I do think the age range of 8 to 108 is accurate. But, otherwise, as an adult I see this as one of the best toys ever. Fun and educational. I look forward to when he is a little more enthusiastic about making the circuits on his own or being more involved when we do it together.

Great learning set
Purchased for my 6 year old son. He has a lot of experience on LEGO so thought would introduce him to electrical circuits.- Very well built. Can withstand the rigours of a child’s play- Easy to use. Cannot stress this more as the ultimate user is a child.- great instructions. Extremely detailed and can be followed by a child.- We’ll packaged with each part going to a separate slot. Teaches a child to organize his work.Highly recommended for children in the age group of 6-10 years
