Yes! I've strained grease from hamburger to the hot water from pasta. Works great!

will it scratch non-stick pots?

It will not. The clips are covered with silicone which will not scratch your pan's interior.

ummm ....Why did you include a packet with almost a pound of ball bearings in the box?

Ball bearings and the like are used for baking pie crusts without filling. I'm betting someone packed it in error.

Does it work on frying pans?

As long as the pot is a regular round shape, it it should work.
