What voltage do these lamps use? 120 or 220v?

These are fabulous lamps. I believe that they are 120. They are whatever the house is wired for. We didn’t have to do anything special.

I am currently using a 100 watt bulb but it's gets so hot. Why?

I can't help you. I am running a 100-watt equivalent CFL and do not have a heat issue. Try changing to either a CFL or an LED bulb.
