This jacket was made for us from a military supplier in the regulation Dark Seal Brown Cowhide with the texture of Goatskin It is made similar to current Military-Spec which require USA Tanned Cowhide Leather. Other features are the #10 Brass Zipper, Inside Windflap, Knit Cuffs and Waistband, Underarm Gussets with Eyelets, Patch Pockets with Pen Slot, inside Gun/Map Pocket, Button Tab under the Collar. This jacket is regular to trim fitting and most customers will order one size larger. Some Customers have said the pockets are more to the side than their old military jackets and this is true but Phaar has current contracts and this is the way the pockets are. We did add hidden side entry to some jacket so you can put your hands in the pockets but if you do not want it let us know when you order.

Worth Every Penny!!!
This jacket is worth every penny. It has a nice and supple cowhide leather that has a nice stamped pebbled grain, although I wish it were goatskin, it is still very nice. It is a slim fitting jacket so make sure you upsize for a regular fit. I have a 40.5 inch chest and normally wear size 40 suits, but I ordered a size 42 and to my surprise fits just like size 40. If you will be wearing sweaters under this, I recommend ordering 2 upsizes, so if you wear a size 40 you should get a size 44. The stitching and details are excellent and the mouton collar is not overwhelmingly large, but perfect size in proportion to the jacket for a cool “Maverick” look. The fur is real, I did a burn test by cutting a few strands and lighting it on fire and it smelt just like burnt hair. What this jacket is, is a modern issue spec jacket which were made by PHARR(govt contract supplier) that meets the modern Navy G-1 specifications. If you are wondering about how far back the pockets are placed, take a look at the 1960s issued G-1 jackets like the one President Kennedy wore, they also had the pockets sewn on further back like this one. The "USN" perforated on the wind flap is also facing outboard which was how they had them at certain times of this jacket's issue like in the early 60s, I have seen them positioned many ways going from top to bottom, facing inboard and outboard. Anyone who says this isn't a genuine G-1 jacket has never seen that many G-1 jackets through the years of this jacket's history. I would definitely buy this again if it were lost or stolen. It’s a beautiful Navy G-1 jacket!!! *Update* I replaced the zipper tab with an old 60s G-1 jacket paper clip zipper tab and it made me love this jacket even more.

Like the fit and would even be able to wear ...
For suit coats I wear a 44L. Ordered the 48 as these tend to run small. Like the fit and would even be able to wear with or without a sweater. Plenty of sleeve length. My Navy issue jacket has just shrunk too much (go figure) but will be enjoyed by my nephew. USN stamp different orientation from my issue jacket and collar is old school color, material and texture (which I really like). Although front pockets are described as true patch pockets, the coat I received did have side entry (not too big of a deal). Weight and texture of leather very authentic, too. Have been looking for a very long time and most sellers in the $500 plus range. This is an outstanding value. I'm a fan of San Diego Leather.

Runs small
Fit is small but the jacket is good quality and looks nice. I wear a size 40 flightsuit and a size 42 issued jacket that I am not sure is even real leather. So I ordered a size 42 in this jacket, it is considerably smaller than my issued size 42 jacket. I wanted to return it for a size 44 but they are out, so I will return it for a refund instead. The fit charts don't help as they are for the wrong jacket.

Great jacket. Collar questionable.
The jacket is very good to excellent quality. The exception is the collar. Low quality. Not what I expected. Know that when ordering you should order a size larger to maybe two sizes larger depending on your girth( chest size and stomach ). Overall great jacket workmanship.

The real deal
This is the real USN G1, dated back to the 60s. It's a slim fit by design, just like my first GI USN G1 before it was replaced by the Alpha nylon ones. For the price of $175, it's a great buy. I remembered it was over $200 already back in the 80s. Best of all, it's made in the USA.

Fitting for Future Sailor
My dad, a Vietnam vet who owns several leather jackets in the $400+ range, was amazed by the quality. I'm a Navy fanboy so I'll buy anything that is used the the Navy or Marine Corps. Bonus points for not being made in China. A leather Navy G1 made in U.S.A. Hell yeah! Apparently you're supposed to buy a size smaller so that it will fit on your body, so i got a size 40, but it was too short for my torso. Customer service was helpful and thorough they guided me through an exchange process and how i'm happy with my new jacket. My only gripe is that for some reason, the left sleeve seems more wrinkled that the right side. Hopefully in the future, this won't be a problem because when I'm riding, the want the wear and wear to show.

Disappointed
I write this reluctantly. The hype implied this jacket was to specification, perhaps an overstock. True of everything but the collar. The collar is not equal or close to the issue. I've compared side by side. Disappointing. The collar on this jacket defines it. This is poor definition.

Good quality and fits as expected.
Super nice and fits as expected. Bought for my husband and he loves it! If you want one that is not "snug" fitting, I would recommend getting one size larger though.
