What types of wax are used to make the cheese wax?

My package doesn’t detail the types of waxes in the blend. I can tell you that the orange is vastly inferior to the red. For whatever reason, the orange is brittle and does stick well to cheese. The red is great!

What ingredients are used to color the waxes?

Not sure, but its food safe. I have largely abandoned waxing my cheese in favor of vacuum sealing. You might want to look into that. Waxing is cool, but vacuum sealing is practical. Happy cheesing.

What colors for what types of cheese?

Cheese types like Edam or Gouda are usually coated in red wax. Black wax is associated with aged cheese types like Parmesan or cheddar. Specialty cheeses like dill, pepper jack or bacon-cheddar can be coated in a variety of colors. You can really use any color for any cheese type though.

Great for sealing mushroom logs

We used this wax to seal mushroom spores into logs to grow mushrooms. The wax was easily melted and worked well for our process. We got it in one day and it was very affordable.

Excellent Product

This is my first time using this product and I'm very impressed. I'm using it to wax my home made ricotta salata cheese and this wax is great. It's easy to use and is completely odorless of course. If you're a cheese maker I highly recommend this wax for this application.

I guess it did its job. However, I did not realize it would take about an HOUR to melt. And...make sure you do not drip the wax because it's not so easy to clean it up. I melted in a double boiler and used an Oven Bag so I could save any unused wax to use later. I dipped 6 pounds of cheese and had plenty of wax left over. Just let it cool in the Oven Bag and packed it away for later.
