The lamp holder is mounted onto something, which the wire goes through; what is this called and does it come with it?

What you see in the picture is what you get. The end the cable comes in is threaded, presumably to allow it to be threaded onto a table lamp base or something similar you only get one shade ring with each lampholder which I think is a bit silly as you need 2 to attach any type of lampshades. This is a push fit connection. You bare the wires and push into the contacts. The contacts are two little silver spring connections and you need to feed the wire in between them. if you pull on the wire it will lock the wire into position.
