Ho Stevie!Surf Bucket Hat with Chin Straps for Surfing, SUP, and Watersports

I’m so glad I got this hat! I have sensitive eyes was using anti-fog sunglasses with vents (which would still fog up) and a strap across the back of the head when I surf, but it was too annoying to readjust all the time. I’m also concerned about sun exposure to my face since the joys of aging have recently blessed me with melasma. I decided to try this hat to solve both issues. I’m still a kook, so on my first trip out wearing this hat I was wiping out all over the place and it didn’t budge! I mean, it was a brutal surf session, but at least I didn’t have to worry about losing my cool new hat and the great sun protection it provides. The front brim is pretty stiff, so it doesn’t collapse and kept its shape, even after washing some sand off after the session. It dried really fast, too.When I first got it I wasn’t sure if I got the right size because it was pretty tight (I’m a woman with a ginormous head who had to wear men’s hats because hats for women look like I’m wearing a kid’s hat), but once it got wet it fit perfectly and wasn’t uncomfortable at all. I got a medium, btw (in case there are any fellow bowling ball noggin ladies out there considering this hat).There is a pocket to store small things inside the top of the hat. Since it stayed on so well and the pocket has a strong seal, I think it will be a reliable place to put my car key. It has a detachable neck guard that attaches with four buttons. I haven’t tried using it yet, but it is pretty secure once attached.This was my first Ho Stevie! purchase along with a sock for my 9’ Rock-It foam board (got the 9’6” - perfect fit). So far I’m very impressed and it’s great to support a surfer making great gear for other surfers (including us kooks haha).

Stayed on while I was getting smashed by waves. The most the hat moved was up to my hairline on a really powerful wipeout.Wearing it dry just to walk around gives me a bit of a headache because it’s really tight. So if you’re wearing it dry I’d order a larger size. In the water it expands and feels perfectly snug.Really glad I bought this as this prevented me from getting morning sun exposure. I could feel the hat getting hot, but my skin stayed protected. I’ll check in again after using it more.

This hat is great protects you from the sun while in the water and stays on no problem. I thought it would be uncomfortable and take some getting used to but that was not the case this hat is comfortable and helps me not squint while waiting for waves. It comes with a flap to cover your neck that I use on very sunny days. This protects my face, scalp, hair, and ears from sun damage. Also because it reduces squinting it help protect my eyes from the sun as well. I would highly recommend this for anyone who consistently surfs!

I see current price of hat is down to $30 so that would have been more palatable than the $45 I originally paid for this hat.Pros: Hat provides good sun protection due to size of brim and neck extension which I have yet to have issues staying connected. Fairly comfortable and Large fits me well -- L selected after carefully reading other reviews on sizing. Dries quickly as advertised.Cons: While brim may be perfect for slow-speed water activities, it does not hold up for higher speed activities like jet skiing where I end up looking like the miner on Toy Story. Also, the only color offered is (or was) black which is the worst option for sun and heat protection.Overall, it is serving its basic purpose, but wishing I had paid much less. I did take the chance based on overall higher customer reviews. Current reduced pricing may be result of more competitive options. Recommend company offer this hat in more color choices, especially lighter colors like beige or khaki. If not moving at high speed, then brim should be fine for most water activities. For jet skiing, I will need to look for another hat with a firmer and likely smaller brim.

But it's better than getting skin cancer! This hat is great. I love that it stays put even if the waves are getting the best of you. It's comfortable and I love that it has a flap to protect your neck. Surf smart, you won't be young forever!

Stays on my head while commercial fishing in Alaska. Chin strap does not chafe! Brim is pretty solid, and does not sag. This hat is worth it!

Stevie does it again, best surf hat ever. Hard front brim with soft sides and back.

It's a great fit (Large) with comfortable elastic round the headband. Stays on well, even in a few heavy nosedives, or when duck-diving. I can't fault it, and it's also good on windy walks, staying without needing chin strap done up.
