Live near the coast and these did not work here. Victor Out of sight mole trap works best in sandy soil. BTW I work in wildlife control...

How do you know when a mole is in the trap if it's all underground?

You don't have a way to tell...after it's been set for three or four days, you dig up the trap and check if it's been tripped by a mole. After trying every other method out there, this has been the most successful trap, with it working 4 out of 5 times. Great trap...just follow all the directions carefully, and you'll get your mole(s).

How do these compare to Trapline mole traps?

I didn't care for these traps. I caught nothing with them. I have my best luck with Cinch traps for moles.

will they work in florida, sandy soil, loose?

That's a valid question! In the PNW, with sandy loam and years of compost, it's still very challenging to set it so the soil doesn't collapse.
