what is the best way to keep this cold for comic con 9am-7pm for 5 days?

I don’t think you can. I have tried to keep stuff really cold just for my 12 hr work shift. I do use the cold frozen packs to keep it at least semi-cold.

Are the strap clips and the hoops on the bag that the strap connects to metal?

No. They are plastic. I have had no problem with it. It can carry a lot of weight.
