Do the headphones work without the app as these would be used with a MP3 player that can’t download apps

As long as the MP3 player has Bluetooth, they would connect wireless and work. I don't use the Sennheiser app (CapTune) - I use them with my android phone + Spotify. I have also used them connected to my computer using the supplied USB cable (not using Bluetooth).

Are these any good for laying down position? Beach, sofa, bed, etc.

They are good for laying down on your back. I use them laid on the sofa and on bed. Also use them while exercising.

Does the earbuds magnetically clip together?

No, the earbuds do not clip together. For storage, there is a strip of hook and loop tape to hold them together, which then sticks to the storage case. This secures them when in the, top quality, travel case.

Has anyone experience of using these for video conferencing? I don't like using on ear or over ear headphones but i need a decent mic to be heard on z

I use these daily for video conferencing at work. They work extremely well and are comfortable.
