Will this remove background noise from external mics into canon 80d?

No it won't. It's a filter cable for internal issues - it stops clipping at loud volumes but cannot alter the actual sound pick up from microphones.

Does anyone know if this will work to connect a zoom h1 to a canon 700d? zoom h1 has 3.5mm port, 700d has a 3.5mm and 2.5mm ports.

Yes it will connect fine you may still need to adjust the audio input levels on the 700d because you would be taking the output out of the headphone jack of the H1 I don’t believe the 700d has a separate headphone output for monitoring and so you’ll need to make sure your sound levels are ok with a quick test before hitting record to avoid clipping.

Can I use this to input a line level signal into a Kodak Zi8

I don't have one of these but it takes the line output from my Zoom H4n and converts it to a mic signal for my 80d. So as long as you have a mic input it should do the job just fine

Is -35db attenuation too much? does anyone use this with a canon dslr and zoom h1n? should i buy the mv-rc100 (-35db) or the mv-rc300 (-25db)

I use this MV-RC100 with a Canon EOS 650D and a Zoom H1 (not H1n). It works fine. To initially set it up I create a constant sound source and set the Zoom’s manual gain control to match the levels it displays when in auto gain mode. I do the same with the Canon using its built-in mics. If I then plug the Zoom into the Canon via the MV-RC100, I can match the camera’s built-in mic level by setting the Zoom’s volume output to about 60-70%. This gives me plenty of scope to increase or decrease the recording level by adjusting either the Zoom or Canon. If feels about right, without any of the adjustments being near their max or min. Decibels is a logarithmic scale, where I think (check) a 10dB difference represents a doubling or halving – in which case the other attenuator you are considering would probably be too weak for me.
