How to open the back to replace battery? Tried very small screwdriver but could not get it in the crack.

Hi. The batteries will last 3 to 5 years depending on how much you use the Indiglo night light. If a battery only lasted 6 months then either the battery was duff, the indiglo night light was used an awful lot or the watch had been in the vendors stock for a few years without the energy guard in place.

Is the width of the strap really 38mm? I can't find any other 38mm nato strap to replace it

According to my 67% reliable Chinesium callipers the strap is 20mm. The width of the body of the watch is circa 38mm :)
