does it only use 18v batteries?

Yes, the new range of XR 18v li-on batteries only. There are various Ah rated sizes, 1.3 right up to the 5.0. As of early Nov 14 the best value seems to be 4.0Ah for approx £48 ea.

Can the LED be replaced? I looked on the Dewalt site, but could not find any information on this.

The LED Cannot be replaced.The LED has a Very Long Life and should last for many years.

How much current does the led torch draw ? (so i can get an indication of how long before i need a battery recharge)

There is no AA battery. Only AH which you slide on the bottom
