should i use this on my fender jass bass W/ maple neck?

With reference to website "Ultimate Guitar" - it seems that the concensus is that Lemon Oil should NOT be used on a Maple fretboard. here is the link.http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1545402 (I think you will find this website interesting anyhow!)See "Ding Feng" below - it's ok for use on (clean) Rosewood fretboard which has an open grain. Note, I use the word Fretboard - I assume you are not rubbing it your neck (guitar or person !)

Is it safe/suitable for Rosewood?

I use it on rosewood and it works great. Just put a few drops on a cloth and rub it in, then wipe off the excess. Do this every few months and it will keep your fretboard looking and feeling great.

Should I apply this to the strings, or only to the fret board?

The lemon oil is a cleaner and wood conditioner formulated to remove dirt, grease and wax buildup from the fretboard and frets. I give my guitar a good clean when I change the strings. I hope this answers your question 👍🏻.
