Quick and filling, as long as you follow the instructions
I was a little apprehensive about ordering these, particularly as there had been a number of one-star reviews. However, when they arrived it became clear that those people who said they tasted horrible, or felt slimy, clearly hadn't followed the instructions on the packet. The bottom line is that this is a tasteless alternative to rice (it's actually just the noodle version of the same product chopped into tiny pieces) that you can quickly make and add to your favourite dish. I've tried it with curry, chilli, and as a side to casserole and it really nice, and didn't impinge on, or dilute the taste of the dish it was accompanying. When the instructions say you have to rinse them three times in warm water, you really need to follow that advice. If you don't, they do taste very chemically as they come in a starch buffering solution in order to hold their shape (they're made of mostly water). But, it does warn you on the packet. I'd also suggest stirring it part way through microwaving it to help some of the moisture evaporate.Overall, a good way to help with weight loss or weight management.

Ewwwwww. Rubbery and tasteless
I saw an advert for this and thought "WOW" this is the answer to filling me up without calories. So I made the mistake of buying 5 packets. I was surprised by it's appearance. It looks like chopped up spaghetti and nothing like rice. It has a very odd smell but this does go after rinsing. I followed the instructions and added a curry sauce I had made and tucked in. Being a stubborn person I did make it do the bottom of the bowl but never again. It's chewy, slimy, the sauce doesn't coat the "rice" the way it does with real rice. The texture in your mouth I can only describe as what a mouthful of maggots may feel like. It's almost impossible to chew, just breaks up into smaller fragments of bits. Each mouthful became more difficult to eat and by the time I had got to the bottom I was feeling a bit sick. If this is the effect eating this stuff is supposed to have then it's a success but only because it puts you off eating anything at all for hours and hours. I would rather eat nothing than eat the remaining bags I have left.

A lovely alternative for those on a diet
I'm not going to pretend that this product tastes like rice or even has the texture of rice but if, like me, you are on a diet and need a low everything alternative then this product is great for padding out a meal. It is tasteless so ideally needs to be eaten with something and the texture is odd but certainly not anything that puts me off. I was happy to buy the multipack online as it's cheaper than buying it in any shop that I've ever found to stock it, but it is pricey for what it is. I wouldn't use it if I wasn't looking for a alternative for rice & pasta and because of the price it's not something I'd look to carry on using once I finish my diet but for a short period it is an investment. Make sure to empty into a sieve and rinse well as the starch smell can be a little off putting.

Odd texture, but does what it says.
This is one of the strangest eating experiences I've ever had. I picked this up on a Lightning Deal, a pack of 5 for under £1. Cheaper than Pot Noodles! The reviews are all accurate. When you open the packet, there's another clear vacuum packed bag inside, which your pasta is in, packaged with a clear fluid. Open those up, and there's a definite smell. It's not unpleasant, but it's not exactly nice. Some people have said "dead fish", which I don't agree with. Sort of chemically, I suppose. The look of the pasta isn't really penne tubes as I know them, more sort of squashed strips, penne size, and shiny. I rinsed it a few times in a sieve, as recommended, because I think it's the fluid which the pasta is stored in that has the smell, and not the pasta itself. With the pasta clean, the smell was gone.I added some pasta sauce and microwaved it in a bowl. It looked okay. The pasta hadn't inflated or anything, and still looked like flat strips. It hadn't absorbed the sauce, and looked much as it did when it went in.Now for the crux of it - the eating. The texture is the weirdest thing ever. Someone else has compared it to squid, and that's probably the best description I could give it. Fibrous, chewy, and tasteless. Make sure you use a fairly strong tasting sauce, because there's no taste of the pasta. It wasn't the nicest experience, and just felt really strange. The good point though? Logging my meal on my calorie counter, and seeing it recognise the product as only having 9 calories, even though I felt like I'd had a decent size lunch of pasta. It allowed me to have a really nice dinner.Would I recommend it? I don't know. I guess if you're trying to lose weight, this is certainly a great way to do it. You do feel like you've eaten a good meal after it. If you can get over the awful texture, this might just be perfect for you.
