Do you need to buy a separate handle to operate or how do you rotate it?

Hi No handle needed, just twist by hand. The important thing is to only turn clockwise, otherwise, there is a risk of unscrewing the rods. Hope this helps. Thanks

Can the rods bend easy round corners in the outside pipes?

Like most rods of this type they are not very bendy and I have found will only go around a very slight radius.

Can these be used to clear downpipes from the bottom opening

Depends how much clearance you have at the base of your downpipe. They’re not very bendy. They have to be quite rigid to clear the pipes properly. I used a length of old hose on the tight spots.
