Is it advisable to leave the charger plugged into the car port all the time or will it be ruined if I do this?

I always leave it in the car plugged in all the time. I never had one go bad.

The problem is the circumference of the part that gets inserted into the car port. It's just slightly too wide resulting in you having to use more pressure than normal to get it to fit. Knowing this in advance, you should be fine. I think most people gave up because it does feel like it doesn't fit. And to be clear, you aren't jamming it so hard you're damaging your car's port. It just requires a little more force than normal.
