Is the box well made to take tent pegs and bits?

Yes, I would say it is. If you were wanting to store pegs and mallet etc, I would prob just remove the insert tray that sits on the top.

Would it be big enough to store paint pots and paint brushes

I would say yes.. it can certainly store brushes up to about 33 cms and pots would have to be 9cm deep or less.

What is the depth of top tray? I’m wanting to use for phlebotomy/blood bottles

Should be okay, the lid has a decent height from the tray, and it is not that shallow. I keep rolls of vinyl mine, and use the tray separately for thread and buttons
