Jim DunlopDBSBN45105 Md-4/St Bass Super Bright Nickel Bass String

This is my second set of these strings. The first I purchased tp put them on my 4 string fender jazz and was so pleased with the results I just had to replace the D'Addario strings, which sounded very average, on my 5 string jazz bass, now that bass has been transformed into a tone beast. These are probably the most balanced set of strings I have used, but now I have been left with the dilemma to whether I changed my beloved DR strings I have on other basses.Overall a fantastic string which I cannot recommend highly enough.

I've used these strings for several years now and wouldn't be without them. The hex core flat wound combination gives a great balance in between the usual tones from hex core round wound and round core flat wound strings.

Absolutely incredible strings, regardless of price! (That said, the low price is an added bonus).I use these strings on my fretless, and I can get a Bakithi Kumalo sort of tone with ease if I want to (though a little warmer, perhaps, which is unsurprising as Bakithi uses Dunlop stainless rounds). These strings just sing, and if you're going for the fretless mid-range growl (or 'mwah') these are just perfect. They're a very mid-based strings, but with decent bass and treble overtones; though if you're going for a more modern, hi-fi sound, these may be a little warm for you. As I said, on a fretless, they growl and purr all over the fingerboard, but without that irritating 'clank' that often occurs on a fretless.They also don't wear the fingerboard too badly (compared to steel rounds). The tension is just right: tight enough that you get good note definition but loose enough that they're very easy on the fingerboard. Also, the low B is excellent. A very clear, ringing tone that fits the other strings very well. These strings also seem to vibrate quite loud acoustically, which translates to a very complex tone through an amplifier (they bloom into a mid-based sound with lots of overtones).Considering these strings cost about £20, I'm amazed. I don't see myself using anything else for a long time!

Sound-wise and longevity , these strings are up their with the very best on the market. They sound very open, bringing out the true sound of your instrument and its pickups/electronics. The high end is very crisp and clear, mids are tight, more prominent in the high mid range and the low end has an articulate punch. These strings particularly shine when playing slap technique. They are slightly rough to feel but you soon get use to it and the tension is even per string but pretty low. The tension is pretty surprising as they are wrapped onto a hex core which is known to make strings tauter. The con of these strings is alterations to the truss rod and action will probably be needed because of their "loosey goosey" nature which will put some people off. In my opinion , it is worth the minor hassle of this as they're great strings.ADDED NOTE: After playing these strings in a bit, i particularly like their broken in/dying tone over their new "out the packet" sound. They remind me of an old pair of steel strings that have that roundness but keep a bit of bite there! Ive had the current set on my 5 string since October, its now April and they sound at their best right now!

I'm a funk, blues and jazz bassist utilising mainly fingerstyle, palm muting and slap. I've been using Elixir strings for many years but decided to try these out on a bass I wasn't sure I was keeping and therefore didn't want to spend £40+ on strings. These Nickel Super Brights are a joy on the fingers and sound fantastic unplugged as well as through EQ/amplification. Despite the name, they can thud and thump as well as sounding amazing when's slapping. 95% of the performance of the Elixirs at half the price. Very happy. A slight negative is they can 'roll' under the fingers when bending or using vibrato. I didn't notice this with Elixirs but this isn't enough to put me off buying Dunlop Nicke Super Brights again. Top marks!

Absolutely converted! Super Bright Strings!

After buying another brand of bass stings for years, and having a few bad (or dead) stings crop up over a time which I had contacted customer services about but got nowhere with. to me they seemed not interested at all, I guess I'm just one insignificant complaint to a massive brand name. I had 4 packs of strings with issues so this was important to me as a loyal customer.Anyway on to these Jim Dunlop 40-100's - These strings are great. To me in a rock outfit & these are bright and zingy without being over the top and they last. First gig I played with these at sound check my band mates thought I'd gotten a new rig or another pickup installed in my bass. They really sing. Recommended.

I use these on a jazz 5 I have trialled almost every brand , these have the best balance of feel and tone imo after a few hours play time they have a nice thud , I will stick to these on my j got the foreseeable- YMMV
