It appears that the battery is not user serviceable, i.e. cannot be replaced simply. Is this accurate? If so, what is the average battery life?

This is true. While the battery is a standard CR2450, it has a positive connector that covers the entire battery making it impossible to replace the battery without de-soldering the connector. The battery life depends on how much you use the key fob but it will likely last a couple of years of average daily use. I bought mine simply as a spare in the event I misplaced the original. But I had no problem programming it into my 2022 F-150.
