After pausing on my first purchase, I bought another with no hesitation.
What's the expression? Buy once, cry once? That's what I thought about when I initially purchased one of these dehumidifiers for my residence a couple of years back. It has worked so well that I recently purchased a second unit for a second basement at my property. Simply put, this unit is terrific. The built-in pump and ease of use are my favorite features. The pump is very strong and able to pump vertically for quite a distance which gives it much more versatility than other units, especially those that have hose-drains that are gravity-based. It came with plenty of hosing as well. Prior, I had to place a different unit high up on a piece of furniture in order to access a drain pump on an AC unit, whereas this unit can simply sit on the floor beside it and easily pumps the water vertically. Additionally, just pressing the purge button, and immediately seeing the unit expel large volumes of water, is an easy way to be sure the unit is removing moisture from the air.The unit is ready to use right out of the packaging which is well designed as it just lifts off the unit where it is. (Like anything with a condenser, it should sit upright for a day after delivery in case it was laid on it's side during transit.) Just connect the hose, set the desired humidity level, and you're in business. The wheels and the handle make it very easy to relocate if desired. After owning one of these - now two - I would not purchase one of the many smaller cheaper ones that seem designed to expire in ways I could not repair. The fan is pretty quiet as well, given the substantial amount of air it moves. The filter is very easy to remove and clean if it's in a dusty basement environment like mine.I never thought I'd spring for the expense of such a unit but I have no doubt that, in the long run, I've saved money and solved my damp-basement(s) issue for the long term. It's doing the job I needed multiple less expensive units for and seems built to last far longer. I will note that I also emailed the vendor with a question and quickly received a courteous and detailed reply. I am delighted with my purchase and have no hesitations about recommending this product.

I solved my moisture problem after hurricane Ian
After Hurricane Ian, I was faced with the challenge of controlling the humidity in my entire home, as the bathroom had been soaked and the drywall inside had sustained water damage. I already had a 70-pint dehumidifier, but it was not sufficient for the task. I needed something with at least double the dehumidifying capabilities, which is why I chose a 170-pint dehumidifier. The unit came in a large box and I was initially worried that it would be too large to navigate in my home. However, upon opening the box, I found that the Styrofoam packaging took up a lot of space inside the box to protect the dehumidifier. I read the manual and found out that I had to leave it unplugged and in an upright position for at least 24 hours before use, so that the oil in the compressor could settle from the move. Not doing so could affect its lifespan and function. I also took out a clear 16-ft flexible drain hose.Even though it is larger than my 70-pint dehumidifier, it does not look bulky. On the contrary, the combination of black and white make it look like a regular household unit. Even though it can remove 2.5 times more humidity from the air, it only takes up slightly more space than a 70-pint dehumidifier.Another step I had to do before turning it on was to connect the drain hose to the drain outlet. The hose was long enough, so I could place the other end in my bathroom sink. The LCD display is large and lights up with large blue numbers when I turn on the dehumidifier. It is very intuitive to use. I can monitor the humidity levels and adjust the target humidity level by pressing the up and down buttons. If I do not press any button, it displays the current humidity level.I first put it to use in my bathroom, where I had removed the wet drywall due to water damage. The room was damp and musty, and I hoped the new dehumidifier would dry it up quickly so I could install new drywall. I turned it on and immediately noticed a difference. The relative humidity was over 75% at that time, but after a few hours, the room was hot and dry, with a humidity level of just below 40%.I appreciated the variety of safety features the unit is equipped with, including automatic shut off when the temperature exceeds 113 degrees Fahrenheit, automatic drainage with the built-in pump, and automatic restart with previous settings in case of a power outage. It also has an auto-defrost function for the evaporator coils and will shut down automatically if the temperature drops below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Although I live in South Florida and may never need the latter safety features, it is reassuring to know that the dehumidifier is more than enough protected and I can leave it running for days without interruption. After five days of continuous operation, the bathroom was bone dry with a relative humidity of 26% and the musty odor was completely gone. The air was hot, but I expected that.I then proceeded to use the dehumidifier in other rooms of my home, but before doing so, I cleaned the filter located behind the air inlet grill. There was a thick layer of drywall dust on top of the filter, but I was able to rinse it clean with my garden hose and let it air dry. I also pressed the Purge button to drain the water that had accumulated at the bottom of the pump.To my surprise, I did not see a significant increase in energy usage when I logged into the website of my power company, Florida Power & Light. I was able to use the Energy Dashboard to monitor my energy consumption on a monthly, daily, and even hourly basis. During the days I was using the dehumidifier continuously, my daily energy usage fluctuated between 20 kWh at its lowest and peaked at 41 kWh, which was at the beginning. I roughly used 25 kWh without the dehumidifier running 24/7, and with it on, energy use increased to approximately 32 kWh a day. So, even though its rated power is 1200 watts according to the manual, it uses far less. The listed input power of 650 watts must be accurate. Thus, it is not as power-hungry as I feared according to the specifications in the manual, and it is cleverly programmed to save energy.I researched the exact meaning of rated and input power and I know now better why my energy use was lower than expected. Rated power is the maximum power consumption that a device is capable of using under normal operating conditions. Input power, on the other hand, is the actual amount of power that a device is using at a given moment. The input power can be less than the rated power, as many devices, like my new dehumidifier, have power-saving features that allow them to use less energy when not in heavy use. After that, I went on to dehumidify all the rooms in my home. It took me over three weeks. I doubted I could do it as fast as with my regular 70-pint dehumidifier, but ultimately, I was able to solve the moisture problem in my house once and for all.
