I want the circuit to close, alarm ring upon the door opening. Is this (NO) Normally Open? I don't want to use a relay, which Magnet recessed switch do you suggest?

I purchased the GE Sentrol 1125W-N 3/8", and I am happy with them. Very easy to install. Yes, the switch is normally open. The circuit closes when the door/window is shut and the magnet in the door/window causes the circuit in the switch to close.

Will it work in a metal frame and door

I have used these in metal doors and frames, you'll have to be able to drill the same holes.

Surface contacts for windows are installed at the surface. These contacts can be embedded in the window frame, allowing a more hidden install. They both work the same way. The surface mount contacts can have more sensitivity versus the flush mount. I have the flush mount because the installer wanted to keep the wires hidden.
