A favorite book from my childhood
I loved reading this book as a kid and was glad to find a copy to pick up for my own children at a reasonable price. The story of The Wish Giver is a fun one, featuring a trickster figure who shows up in a small town to grant wishes for a nominal fee, which leads to three different characters finding out that they need to be careful of what they wish for, as hijinks ensue and each learns a lesson. It's not unlike The Monkey's Paw in its structure, with a "literal genie" situation regarding the wishes being granted exactly as they were worded rather than how the wishers intended. This printing of the book seems solid, a nice paperback version with a glossy cover (including the cover art I recall from childhood) and an easy-to-read font size inside. The book includes illustrations by a different artist from the cover, which are decent. The story as a whole is entertaining to read, and overall I highly recommend this book for children and adults alike for an enjoyable (and pretty quick) read.

Amazing fantasy story
I read this with one of my sons when he was in 4th grade. It turned him on to reading. He is 39 now and still enjoys fantacy, science fiction books. I purchased 2 books, as I had difficulty in the past finding it. I purchased one as a memory for my son and one for my grandson who is in 2nd grade.

Engaging tale
I liked the characters, and the overall story. I was rapt, as was my energetic 6-1/2 yr old boy. I liked the mystery of the wish giver, as well as how wrong some of the wishes went. It thought it was a very imaginative tale. It showed respect for the intellect and imagination of children unlike so many of the stories that are out there now.

Delightful morality tale
Told in three small interlocking stories, all with the theme of getting what one wants, and the prices we pay for our fantasies, this is a fun little read for the middle children who would love such magic, and who would identify with yearnings, longings and fear of not being accepted. Nice job, both entertaining, and instructive.

Still as good as I remembered
My third grade teacher read this novel to the whole class. I was so appalled by what happened to Henry Piper that the story stuck with me forever. Good story to read with your family.

"I want my child to be a lawyer when he grows up..."
"...What book should I have him read?"Your would-be lawyer prodigy should read 'The Wish Giver' to learn early on the difference between the letter and the spirit of the law. In this case, the law of magic, and the 'just desserts' granted by its mysterious logic.Fact: After reading this book as an 8 year old girl, I spent hours of my time designing wishes in contractual format that would not allow my wish giver to cheat me one bit.Highly recommended.
