5 star book for a teenager or older reader. Profound life lessons.
Well written. Easy read. Good vocabulary for young readers. Short chapters. The audiobook is just amazing! The narrator is exceptionally good! The whole family will be engaged in such a powerful book. Well deserved award winner title. Take into account it’s a fantasy book, that’s all. It really tries to reach all ages.

Fabulous
Absolutely fantastic, can hardly believe this is aimed at children as the language is so rich and lyrical.Loved this book so very much. I've recommended it to everyone and anyone. It's a great story with subplots intertwined expertly throughout, all coming together at the end is such a satisfying way. It's funny, heartbreakingly sad and keeps you up all night if you can stay awake. I will definitely be reading more of this author. A witch, a girl, a boy with a scar, a mad woman in the tower, children abandoned, star children, a dragon and a bog, you won't regret it.

Such a brilliant book
This book is like moonlight lighting up my soul. I care deeply for the characters. I want my own Glerk! And Fryarian😚! But more than thurs it is a book about love, love between women and the healing power it contains, for love lost so unbearable, to love regained all consuming. The bonds between daughter, mother, grandmother. Sensitive souls who thrive over injustice. This book is beautiful. I cant wait to read it to my girls. Xxx

Some very lovable characters but the plot is drawn out
Did I enjoy this book?MostlyDo I recommend it?My instinct is to say no but it is not a bad book. I think if you like books that are not plot driven then I would say yes. There was so much that I liked about this book. The characters were so cool and well written. I want my own bog monster, and Xan is the forest witch I want to be. The way the story all connected and wove together was excellent. It was also funny and there are some great moments between the characters. However, there were two main things that ruined if for me:Any criticisms?First was the plot dragging on for too long. The story builds to a certain point and I just felt like it took too long to get there. There was a lot of repetition that made the story feel too drawn out.The second was the miscommunication trope between the characters. Part of this is needed for the story and I get that, but I felt that it could have been done in a different way. There were times when talking to each other could have really helped the characters and moved the plot along faster. This book is recommended to 10-14 year olds and I would be really interested to see if they enjoyed a story like this as I wouldn’t recommend it for them. Overall, I loved that characters and the atmosphere, but the drawn-out plot ruined it for me.Will I read it again?Nope. For fans of:Northern LightsImpossible Creatures

Enchanting
The title alone made me smile and the book has kept me smiling and made my heart leap. I loved the old witch Xan, adored the dragon Fyrian and wanted to take care of Luna even though she can be hard work. The writing style is beautiful and potent with rich emotional themes grounded by literary excellence and a flow of magic that like all good magic has a life of its own.Enjoy a diet of moonlight...

Excellent Read
I asked my Mom to buy this book because I was intrigued by the title and cover. I was not disappointed. As fantasy books go, this was very original. The Star Children, Glerk, Xan, the Protectorate, even the dragons were completely and truly the first of their kind. This is actually quite an unusual feat for a childrens fantasy novel! The plot was beautiful. It was moving, steady, intriguing, magical and easy to follow (without getting bored!) all in one. I was happy and sad and excited and (strangely) light hearted (This is strange because of the dark theme of the book) mingled together the whole way through. It was a beautiful, memorable read which I will definitely reccomend to my friends.I found the different viewpoints a great way of keeping each chapter… fresh (is that the right word?). I particurlarly enjoyed the madwoman/Adarra chapters. I found her such an interesting and different character. I also liked Fyrian. However, my 4 star review comes from this single downside- its quite sweet. Sort of like honey. I found myself cringing in places, it was so lovely and sweet. Love+sweetness+me do not mix. This was the only bad point during the whole story, so dont let it stop you!It was a magical, entrancing read and I would totally reccomend it for 9-12 year olds.
