Entertainment and Education in one.
Brilliant acting and story. Crazy that it's based on part truth. With the girlfriend studying criminology this was a really good educator of the criminal justice system on America and its flaws demonstrated in the film. Shocking to think that capital punishment still exists, and in one of the most powerful countries in the world. The trauma is holds on the families and the criminals themselves, just watching the film illustrated the intensity of the scenario. Really hope capital punishment will not exist one day soon in America, an maybe the rest of the world will follow suite!

Sarandon & Penn, need I say more.
I bought this Blu-ray to replace my DVD copy, the change to Blu-ray makes it look like your watching a new film because you notice details that you hadn't seen before, so I can recommend this Blu-ray. The film is an in depth view of the relationship between a nun & a convicted murderer on death row, she innocently tries to help him to redeem himself. You never quite know if Penn is telling the truth or not about the crime, but eventually you realize he is beyond redemption, and is a very "evil" man. Great performances by Sarandon & Penn as always.

A sobering but gripping watch.
A finely acted and very well written film which manages, very cleverly, to play to both the pro and anti state execution lobbies. There are some truly uncomfortable scenes where Sarandon faces the victims parents and, of course, the final twenty minutes. Heavy but worthwhile stuff.

Love this film
Susan Sarandon was absolutely brilliant in this film, with Sean Penn a very close second. Although the end is no surprise, the way the entire film plays out and draws you in towards its inevitable conclusion, is masterclass.I have seen this film a few times now, and will be watching it again (and again) before long.
