Q: I have seen carpenters using water with this stone. Can water be used? What grid are the two surfaces?

I am not sure about the grind of the surfaces but it contains two surfaces a coarse one and a smooth one. It is good to sharpen all kind of kitchen knives and cleaver. Few drops of water could be used for grinding but you need to ensure that if you knife's blade is made of high carbon steel instead of stainless steel like most kitchen knives then you need to wipe the blade dry and coat it with a drop of linseed oil to avoid rusting. Personally, I use less water and use a drop of linseed oil for some of my expensive blades.

Dear Amrinder Ji,The side which feels smoother than other on touch is FINE and the other is Coarse ( Rough ).
