It was okay
It was okay but I think I'll stick with my usual porridge.

Comforting and full of flavour
This porridge has a lovely malty taste that makes breakfast feel really comforting. The oat clusters add a bit of texture and it keeps me feeling full for ages. It’s quick to make and tastes great without needing anything added. A nice twist on regular porridge and ideal for cooler mornings.

Preparation isn't handy, but a tasty porridge
This is a review of "Horlicks Malted Porridge with Clusters of Coated Jumbo Oats 400g (Pack of 6) 8 Servings Per Pack, 48 Servings Total | High in Fibre"I'm not a huge porridge eater and when I do have it it's usually those quick preparation pots that you just have to add hot water to, purely for convenience. I don't remember the last time I prepared porridge the old-fashioned way, in a saucepan, but that's the only option here. The mixture in the box looks more like granola than porridge, with clusters of oats, but it breaks down during the preparation process. You do (eventually) get a very nice malty-flavoured porridge, but it's a bit of a faff when you've been used to the 'quick-pots'. I thought that my mother-in-law might like it, but she only likes porridge made with water and she wasn't prepared to even try this one (which needs milk).I think it's one for dedicated porridge-eaters, not part-timers like me.- - - - - - - - - -Note: As a member of the Vine program I was supplied with this item free of charge. Tastes okay, but a hassle to prepare
I had high hopes for this cereal, given that I like Horlicks as a drink, and regularly have porridge for breakfast. Unfortunately, although it tastes okay, it has proven to be too much of a hassle to prepare. This porridge states that it is unsuitable for microwaving. You therefore have to put it in a pan with some milk, bring to the boil and then boil it for 8-10 minutes. In practice, I found it needed a couple of minutes longer than this. I also found I had burnt milk coating the edges of the pan, so cleaning up was also a hassle. The porridge tastes fine once done. It has that familiar malty taste of Horlicks, and the texture is good. It's unfortunately, though, so inconvenient that I wouldn't want to be doing this every morning.

Somewhat of an acquired taste but good consistency
I am a big fan of porridge but less so on Horlicks so was not sure what to expect when I had the opportunity to try this product. The instructions were followed to the letter (pan only) and with skimmed milk, it worked perfectly although with oat milk it took nearly twice as long to thicken (about 15 - 20 minutes). I cannot really define the taste as Horlicky - perhaps a hint of it - but it definitely tastes of porridge and it can be quite stodgy with the jumbo oats (but some may prefer this). It is a similar consistency to traditional jumbo oat porridge once the clusters have broken down.Nowadays, I have resorted back to making porridge in the saucepan after countless days cleaning out the microwave plus the glass tray after leaving it too long. However, this is the only way you can make this malted porridge according to the instructions. Not too much of a problem if you are making a several portions at a time. My extended family enjoy it.I do find this a little too sweet, especially if oat milk is used. I think that less of the burnt caramelised sugar would be more to my taste and perhaps healthier. One thing to note is that the sell by date was Sept 2025 - not so much of a problem if you are a fan of porridge in the summer. At £19.99 for a pack of six, (around £3.33 per pack), it is on par with supermarket prices for porridge that has everything bar the kitchen sink added.
