Censored. Poor video track. Good audio track.
This review is for the DVD of "Fleming". It is a single disc edition. The video quality is generally poor as all the four episodes of the mini series are stuffed into a single layered DVD. The average video bitrate is just above 2.5 Mbps, which is pretty low for a DVD. Audio is relatively better, though. Also, the show is censored to "U/A", where as it was originally rated TV-MA.Main Feature: "Fleming" [2:57:45]Audio Languages: English [448 Kbps DD 5.1]Subtitles: EnglishSpecial Features: NoneDisc Size: 4.05 GBRegions: 2 & 5

Enjoyable Crossover Between Fleming Biopic and Bond Adventure
This is a very entertaining TV Mini-Series with high production values and a wonderful cast. It is based on the life of Ian Fleming, British spy and writer of spy novels, creator of James Bond. However, it's not a straight biography but rather a crossover between Fleming biopic and Bond adventure. The line between reality and fiction is blurred, all in the name of making it a better story.Dominic Cooper, though nearer Bond than Fleming in physical appearance, is quite wonderful in the title role. Samuel West is solid as ever as Rear Admiral Godfrey, and the various women in Fleming's life are well cast with Lesley Manville as his overbearing mother Evelyn, Camilla Rutherford as Loelia, the drop dead gorgeous Lara Pulver as Fleming's wife Ann, and Anna Chancellor as Naval Officer Monday. Seeing her in the role made me seriously wish they'd cast her as Miss Moneypenny instead of some of the other actresses who have followed Lois Maxwell playing the role. She is absolutely superb. This should keep any Bond fan nicely entertained until the next film in the franchise comes out. However, anybody looking for a faithful biography of Ian Fleming will not find it here. As long as you are clear that this is a highly fictionalized account of his life, there is much to enjoy here. Personally, I liked it very much. All four parts of the Mini-Series are on one DVD with a runtime of just under 3 hours. Picture and sound quality are good and English subtitles for the hard of hearing are available.

This is a fab mini series and a pleasure to watch.
This is rather good.Based on Fleming's actual escopades, with a dash of artistic licence, and the swath characterisation of Fleming and the people around him, you get "The man who would be Bond".A cracking yarn as they would have said in the day. All of it inspired the book stories, though like the Charles Dance version of this story, called "Golden Eye", it puts a numerous series of plots forward as they may have appeared in the the Bond movies. Even the music has a hint of that style, nodding to Don Black's famous theme. This is well presented and produced. Fabulous "stylised" acting. Gorgeous costumes, hair, makeup, sets and settings.Dominic Cooper is our man Fleming, and one can only suppose he got this based on the strength of his role as Howard Stark in the Captain America/Avenger/Agent Carter franchises. The production value is very high, well directed and edited. Nothing seemed rushed. The spfx are somewhat obvious, though they are good enough to tell the tale. All in all this is a good find and a pleasure to watch.

The name is Fleming - Ian Fleming
Dominic Cooper is just the actor to play the inventor of James Bond. A thoroughly enjoyable movie which doesn't hide the more corrupt and unpalatable of Fleming's character flaws. Lara Pulver as his sado-masochistic wife is as persuasive as she was as Irene Adler in the Sherlock Holmes episode 'A Scandal in Belgravia'. Fleming did have a dominating mother, was a louche young man, but his intelligence and privilege gave him an insight into the rackety world of espionage and high living which was exploited by MI5 and which he then exploited in his books, relishing in their success. Not a particularly nice man, Fleming, but intriguing.

Fleming-The Man Who Would Be Bond
A very good film chronicling author Ian Flemings exciting pre-author existence. Ian had lived the life he later wrote about, his alter ego 'James Bond,' portrays some of the actual events, Ian, as a British spy, had gone through. This reality makes this film/TV really worth seeing.Highly recommended, especially for fans of some of the James Bond films-you will get to see the genisis of many of Ian's story plots!

Another brick in my Bond wall.
Being a total Bond nut I always welcome a further insight into the man who created him Ian Fleming. This Sky Atlantic mini series although no doubt glamorizes the war time Fleming still adds to the understanding of the author and is very entertaining. In other words a worthy addition to the Bond cannon.
