It is not recommended to clean in the dishwasher, you can wipe it gently with a cloth.

How effective is this for plastering an image onto a flat plastic surface?

It would be fine. I use smaller cut out pieces. The bigger you make it, it takes some skill to get it to slide off the paper onto your project and try no to get bubbles.
