Tile uses Bluetooth technology to connect to your device, so no WiFi is not required.

How long does the battery last?

I purchased mine Nov. 1st and have still not had to recharge battery after the initial charge. (Over 35 days). I rarely use the Tile button or flashlight button, but Keysmart says it should go up to 45 days on a charge.

Is this allowed on a airplane?

I think it should be allowed, unless you put a knife in it.
