Four great heirloom spinach varieties: Monstreaux de Virolflay (200 Seeds) Literally "the monstrous spinach of Virolay". This 18th-century French heirloom acquired its name from the town of Virolay, which lies directly adjacent to Versailles. It is a safe bet that Napoleon himself ate this variety. Grows to an enormous size if allowed, but offers best taste when harvested at 4"-8". Baby leaves are exquisite. Bon Appetit! 28 Days Baby, 48 Days Bloomsdale Savoy (200 Seeds) This old favorite is known for its thick, dark-green, savoyed (rumpled) leaves. This variety is the gold standard of salad spinach. Best grown in early spring although it also does well in the fall. 6"-8" leaves 44 days, open-pollinated. Gigante De Inverno (200 Seeds) A beautiful Italian heirloom variety known for its hardiness. Leaves are very large, wavy, and sword-shaped. Growing habit is as a short, broad plant. 53 days, open-pollinated. New Zealand (40+ Seeds)

Growing Spinach in my Deep Water Culture Buckets
This was my first attempt and growing anything in Deep Water Culture buckets that I picked up at HTG Supply. I have 3 - 3.5 gallon buckets each with 4 spinach plants for a total of twelve plants. I easily get a full salad bowel of spinach every other day. My least favorite of the four spinaches in the assortment was the New Zealand. They took a long time to geminate (much longer than the others). Two of these are not growing well at all. And the last of the New Zealand is growing well but I get a lot of brown edges to the leaves. My favorite of these seeds is the Bloomsdale Savoy. Dark green, crinkled leaves are yummy in salads and on sandwiches. The Gigante D'Inverno is nice and has produced tasty leaves bigger than my hand. The Monstrueus de Viroflay is also nice.I used the HTG Floating seed starter tray without the heat mat and it worked quite well for starting my seeds.I am about ready to plant my second crop and I will skip the New Zealand variety but overall I am very happy with my results.

Very good seeds.
All rows germinated except one. The problem was a Great Pyr and not the seeds. If he sprouts lettuce I will let you know. Plenty of seeds. Used half for the spring and will sow the other half in the fall. Will sow less seeds per inch in the fall as I had to thin out the rows in the spring. I was definitely too heavy on the seeding. Was good to see them come up in Early April and had fresh Spinach before Mother's Day.

Less than 30% of the seeds sprouted.
I’ve been gardening for years and know how to plant and care for seedlings. Many of the seeds did not sprout.

They grow!!
Planted them. A week later spinach started popping up. Tomorrow I am going to harvest and eat it.

Poor Germination Percentage
Germination percentage was under 25%; and that was in a GH under a humidity dome. Not a dependable seed vendor.
