Great book. It touched on a lot of things
Great book. It touched on a lot of things, which actually was useful for me. I already dove onto the journey of learning my specific hair type, so I knew it already: fine(strands), low porosity, medium density,70% shrinkage; but this book just gave me more insight on things I could implement throughout my journey in addition to what I was already doing. Also, it broke down the scientific component of most women of high African decent hair cuticle and the I gained more insight of other natural women's hair type and texture as well. If offered easy to Do It Yourself (DIY) hair products ...which I've been doing via google searches, but I learned a couple new things. Very very informative.

Excellent Guide for the Natural Beauty
Loved this book, I've read it twice already --to go over things I may have missed. I have shared many tips with my fellow girlfriends who are considering making the change. The information is presented in a clear and straight forward format. The tips and recommendations are spot on. I am so glad that it has removed the mystery surrounding our beautiful curls and has addressed the myths that have kept many of us from experiencing this natural beauty, called black hair. I am so loving my wash and wear, beautiful black hair!

and how to use oils is excellent. As a person who has gone natural
I am still reading this book and currently in the process of finishing it. The insight this book gives into hair care, a person's diet choices, and how to use oils is excellent. As a person who has gone natural, I try not to be too critical. I was not too thrilled on the chapter about weave and skipped it entirely. I don't have a problem with wigs since people may wear them for different reasons, but I can't fully endorse the wearing of weaves since the process is different and altogether damaging. I place most weaves in the same category as perms. This is the reason I won't give a five star rating.

Very informative. As a hairstylist I really enjoyed reading it as a professional so it’s an easy read for clients or anyone who wants to learn more about black hair.

A Glorified Google Search on Hair Science
This book is more like a Book Report on the Science of Hair. If Layers of the Hair Strand and a Glossary of ingredient definitions are important to you, then this book is the Read. It makes Hair Science easy. This is not a good read if you want to create DIY hair styles and solutions. I wish their was more content like, "Penetrating Oils" on pg. 65 and "Making your own..." on pgs. 185-189 which is only about 2% of the book. The Author gets an "A" for effort here...But stretching 5 pgs into a book, damaged the feel. Other than that, this is more like a book report that summarizes Google Searches on the Science of Hair. If originality and being creative with your hair is important to you, this is not worth the money.

Great for Inter-racial Adoptive Parents
As an adoptive parent to a little girl with Type 4C hair, this book has been extremely helpful. It’s a great place to start getting educated about black hair care. It’s not specific to children, but there is a chapter on Baby/Toddler/PreTeen hair.
