Best electronic stud finder I've used
I had this same stud finder for tens of years and always loved it, until I dropped it recently and it now only partially works. I've tried many over the years, including some of these 'multi-function' ones with fancy display screens and lots of modes. What I found was that those 'fancy' ones were cumbersome to use and did not produce accurate results. Too many different buttons that had to be pressed to get to a specific mode and then they were slow to react and just plain clunky to hold and use.I searched in an effort to find one like my old one and found this, which is the same, except in yellow and I guess it's a 'pro' model, so it has an additional 'deep scan' mode that my old one did not have. Everything works the same and works well. One simple button to press and hold when you want to scan for studs. Release button when done, simple! The button is positioned intuitively and makes operation simple. The design of the unit itself also makes it comfortable to hold in the hand; it's simple and well thought out. Takes only about a second to calibrate and you're ready to go. Red LEDs indicate when you're nearing a stud, followed by a green LED, audible tone, and a bright red marker line on top to easily show where to mark on wall.I love this tool and was glad I could still find it. I feel the price was reasonable, even though I'd say it's about twice as much as I paid way back when I bought the first one. It runs on a 9 volt battery, which is not included. I'd also note that it's probably not the most rugged tool, since my first one broke after being dropped. But it did last for a very long time, with lots of use, so I can't complain.I would definitely recommend this one if you're looking for an electronic stud finder. I also have a magnetic one, which I also like, but it doesn't work in all cases, so this is still my number one go-to.

Works perfectly! I wonder what all the bad reviews are about?
I was a little skeptical about ordering this one because of all the bad reviews that called this product a "piece of junk" and worse. I am sorry but those of you who are having difficulties, if you did not receive a defective item, you may want to read the directions closer. I thought I would post a few of my feelings when I got this. First of all, a free 9" 3-way level included in the package was a nice little touch. You can never have enough levels in your toolbox.I had a number of projects around the house and garage that I was waiting to do once I got the studsensor, and this one was able to find all the studs in every place that I looked for, and it was very accurate. Here are a few tips:First, start with a fresh new battery. I had an old 9v battery lying around in my toolbox and didn't realize it was pretty much dead, but once I got a new battery and put it in, the lights were bright and sound was clear.Second, place the sensor flat on the wall and then push the button and WAIT for the green light to turn on. If you move before the green light turns on, it is not going to work.Third, if you happen to get "lucky" (maybe unlucky here) to put the sensor on a stud right at the beginning, the device will flash errors. Just place it another 6" away and try again. Finally, if you are not sure if the device is working, there is a very simple way to test. Simply push the button while the device is in your hand without putting it on the wall. Then bring your other hand close to it, and you will see the LEDs increase and beep as if it found a stud. And this is also in the directions!Yes it is a little plasticky - the build quality is not the best, but its cheap and it works! Be careful putting the battery in - you need to lift up the battery cover vertically after a little pry on the tab - packaging says a battery will last 50 hours of use - that would probably be years of use given how little you need these for normal household work.I think for the price, and the included level, this is a super buy and will recommend it any time to anyone.

This item did not work at all, but it ...
This item did not work at all, but it is not worth my time to send it back for the price. I opened the package slapped a battery in it, and nothing happed I tried 3 different battery's I had laying around and it still didn't work. So I went to the store and got a new battery, the lights would light up then go dim and it still wouldn't find a stud. I will most likely pull it apart just to see how it works (I always wondered what makes these things tick).Save your money and just use a magnet to find the screws/nails in your drywall. (life lesson learned keep it simple).

I have had one for about 20 years
these work well, they are easy to use, i always double check before making holes. i have lent it to several people who claimed "those don,t work" and they were happy with this model.I had one for about 20 years, it finally gave out . This one is my second one.

This does a great job
This does a great job and with the deep search you can really find studs under inches of material. Just be careful if you have it on the deep find setting and you are just working with 1 layer of drywall or it will indicate studs almost a half an inch before you get to the edge. Although not shown, mine came with a nice level but no 9v battery, so make sure you have one of those.I saw a lot of bad reviews but I think that some people were accidentally using Deep Scan which can give you wierd results unless you are working through multiple layers.

Good price works like a $35 one
The instructions are printed on the item...they basically say to go over the stud keep going a few inches and go back...it's not that hard if you can't figure this out then you shouldn't be hanging heavy objects or whatever you're doing. very well made and clear about the location of the stud and it's options. red light is great to have makes it easy to draw a perfectt line and the included tips are very useful
