Love this stuff.
We found black rice in an asian grocery store years ago. Have not found it since relocating to a less urban area. I was so glad to find this on amazon! Its whole grain, has much, much more nutrition due to the deep purple color. An additional bonus - looks great when plating white foods such as white fish or chicken.

The health benefits are worth it
I buy this rice repeatedly. It cooks up great. It tastes great. I use this instead of white or brown rice because it keeps my blood sugar low. They shipped this very quickly when I ordered it. It's a little on the pricey side, when you compare ounce to ounce, but local stores in my area don't carry either red or black rice. I recommend this product.

Interesting
Would've given 5 stars however it is very pricey. It truly looks black in the bag but when cooked it is eggplant purple. Aroma during cooking is no different than white or brown rice. Once cooked though it has an odor I can't describe , not smelly just different. I definitely wouldn't personally eat it by itself. I tried a tablespoon by itself and it has a rich nutty flavor but not something I could eat ever day. I made beef stroganoff and put it over this rice and it tasted fine that way. I'm thinking next time I'll use it in a soup or stew. I purchased this for antioxidants and not as a diet type food -henceforth the stroganoff. I would purchase again when price comes down. FYI I cooked it in rice cooker it's a two to one ratio. I was hoping it would be more of a fluffy rice but it's quite heavy.

If you like Rice in purple
I am travelling a path of healthier eating and some recipes called for the never before used black rice. I learned it was the rice of the Chinese Emperor which is why you pay 5 times more then you do for regular rice. It arrives in this nice package, rinse and place in a pot to cook, it is soooo dark...my goodness, everything is turning this dark purple color. I am sure I now have a spoon and a pot that will be dedicated only to the cooking of black rice. Is it even safe to put in my white bowl? But surprise.. that beautiful dark purple stuff cleans right off everything with nary a trace (ok, maybe you can still see it on the wooden spoon, switch to metal). It doesn't even harm the plastic Tupperware type containers. Its a delicious interesting change from regular rice. And far better for you than Ray Rice.

For rice water treatments
I ferment a small amount in water for 24 hours, then dilute it and spray it on my hair. I cover it with a heat cap for 30 minutes, then wash/condition as usual. It helps it grow and makes it soft.

Quite pricey for the not being too flavorful
The taste of this rice did not really impress me more than a basic brown rice. It has a certain interesting flavor, it's somewhat sweet and nutty, but I would not call it delicious or emperor worthy.I found that you need to cook it 5-10 minutes more than the packaging said, with a little less water. The first time I cooked them as instructed and I had to drain the rice.Like all black rice varieties, the liquid from this one will stain. Beware were you put the kitchen utensils you handle it with; anything that's stained easily and has porous surface will be stained a long time. Most tupperwares/containers should be fine after a good wash, wood will stain almost permanently.Quite pricey, if you compare it to white or brown rice.
