Is this product to be used instead of prepping the canvas with Gesso or added after Gessoing as an add-on for better movement of paint?

This product is for prepping the canvas prior to using the wet on wet technique (or you could make your own)

I want to get this but wanted to know how much to apply and how long after applying can I paint?

You don't have to apply it too much or it takes ages to dry before you can paint. Cover the canvas with a coating then gently wipe with paper towel. It will be a day or two before you can paint aka Boss Ross.
