Do you need to soak the logs first or do you just cut a log, wait 3 weeks, then use it?

I soak mine. Use the logs pretty quick. You want the spore you introduced to be first. If you wait to long after cutting, other mycelium can get a foot hold before your spore takes hold. Hope this hepls.

Will it work in upright pvc pipe filled with straw what size are plugs also will cap off pipe after filling

I have never had a green thumb so I didn’t trash this product, but I did mine as directed. None grew. From my study the pvc pipe would not work because it attaches itself to the wood as a root base.

These are plugs but the photo shows the king oysters growing out of substrate bags. Listing says to use them to inoculate logs.

I used them in logs but did it a month go so if your question is whether or not they will grow in logs, I can not answer that question yet from personal experience. I do feel that they are meant for logs as otherwise why inoculate plugs when sawdust would be easier and cheaper.

A waste of my money!

I followed the instructions, spending additional funds on beeswax, and nothing has grown .....at all. I even soaked the log which was not a step that was mandatory. My husband went out and got an oak log and I also plugged some in a tree. Nothing grew in either place. Too late to get a refund because I wasted time giving something a chance to grow. I wasted my money...don't waste yours.

Fun and easy backyard family learning project

Just placed these in a log today. Fairly easy once we read up on what to do and gathered the necessary supplies. The kids had fun covering the dowels with wax. We are looking forward to a few years of fresh mushrooms and trying other varieties.
