IDE pins don't match Apricon DriveWire
Bought this to clone some Motion Computing LE1600 tablet's zif drives using the Apricorn DriveWire (which works great, by the way). Can't figure out what the problem is. There are 6 pins more than on the standard 2.5" IDE. The pin size is the same as a 3.5" IDE, but the pins don't line up. Ok, so I think maybe it's Apricorn's DriveWire and pull out cables to see if it's the Apricorn. Nope, same problem. Pins don't line up -- which doesn't surprise me, as Apricorn really is a great cloning device.Trying to clone Motion Computing's zif drives has been a real pain. It's my 1st time working with zif. Long learning curve... So this is what I found out -- if it is a Toshiba zif cable, it will work on almost any other zif as Toshiba's zif port is narrower than Hitachi, etc. A Hitachi zif cable won't fit the narrower Toshiba zif port, but the Toshiba zif will fit all the 1.8 zif drives, including Kingspec & Samsung SSDs.But -- Toshiba also has it's own 1.8" IDE pinned drive. And to complicate things further, I believe they're pinned differently. Or you have to line up a certain pin number. I'm guessing this is a Toshiba 1.8 drive (2.5 IDE pins) to ZIF connector.I wanted to use a zif adapter to the Apricorn DriveWire as I planned on cloning to a backup 3.5" drive, then the zif drives, but now am buying a zif-usb enclosure to clone via USB port.

Nice, does what it promises
I got this hoping to replace the hard drive in an iMac G4 with a 1.8" SSD. I tested it first in an external IDE (ATA, PATA) enclosure and it worked fine. Unfortunately, in the iMac, the drive issn't recognized.I suspect that it might be related to the master/slave settings, which the user guide that came with the adapter notes are disabled: "Note: the master and slave pin settings on the 50-pin IDE connector is [sic] disabled." I'm going to fool around with it a bit more to see if setting master/slave on the other IDE device in the system (an optical drive) will resolve the problem. But for now, out of the box, it's not working for me.If it had cost under $10, I'd say ok, what do you expect. Unfortunately, it cost $20. I'll keep it, because I know that it can work in some configurations, so who knows, it might be useful later.Update 1:Well, strangely enough, when I removed the drive and repartitioned it with Apple Partition Map (it had been GUID) and replaced it, it started working. That's quite strange, because Disk Utility on the Leopard install DVD should've seen it even as a GUID drive and allowed me to repartition it. I don't fully understand what was happening, and there's probably no way to find out, now. But the drive is working fine, and runs like a, well, this is a family web site ;-).I've upgraded my rating to five stars from three.Update 2:In my application, I had to use this plus another adapter to go all the way from a 1.8 ZIF IDE drive to a 3.5" IDE connector. It turns out that I could've gotten a single adapter to do the entire conversion. Here's a product on Amazon that would've done the trick (and for 1/3 the price): ZIF CE 1.8 Micro Drive to 3.5 IDE 40 Pin Adapter Oh well, live and learn.

Works As Expected, Decent Price
I recently had the hard drive in my Dell d420 crash so I purchased a USB external hard drive to attempt to mount the drive and recover the data. Anyhow if you are buying a 2.5" USB enclosure or already have a 2.5" IDE hard drive you will need to purchase this adapter. If you plan to mount this to a desktop you will need to purchase an extra piece to the adapter to plug in power to the hard drive.Worth the money if you need to mount your 1.8" drive in some manner other than the laptop it was originally in.

Okay
the prodcut looks excactly like the picture, works like it says it does, but some of the ones i ran into i had to purchase a seperate power adapter to get it runningbut not to bad.wish there was some kind of case around it to protect the chip cause i used it to get data off of other hard drives so i kept taking it out and moving it around.

Worked as specified
Changed out a 2.5 IDE rotating hard drive with a 1.8 zif IDE ATA cable Solid State Drive. Needed this and the original zif hard drive cable to make back to back zif connectors (basically a 2.5 zif to 1.8 zif adapter). No problem.

It works
The only think I don't like is that it does not show where pin 1 is, and can be easily plugged backwards possibly damaging something.

Saved me!
This device saved the day for me. My laptop died and I had important data that I needed to get off of it. Hooked the drive up to this and a IDE-to-USB adaptor I already had and the data and the day were saved.
