I am really pleased with my NUC N3700. I added 8GB of Kingston SDRAM and a spare laptop hard disk to begin. I eventually plan to use this NUC as a quiet low-energy headless home server. Connected a keyboard, mouse and display. Easily updated the Intel BIOS firmware from version 031->048. Installed Linux Mint 17.3 (Rosa) from a bootable USB flash drive. The default Linux Mint kernel (3.19) supported the Realtek Ethernet port but did not have a driver for the Intel wireless / bluetooth hardware. It was a simple straightforward process to upgrade to a later version kernel (4.2.0) from the Mint software repository. After reboot the wireless hardware worked perfectly. This NUC is fast enough and very usable as a general desktop workstation.I did try at first installing Debian GNU/Linux testing (Stretch) but ran into several issues during installation: systemd-ifupdown conflict, unreliable video display sync, non-free firmware version alignment, etc. After a couple of hours, I had to give up. Linux Mint just worked.

Absolutely great product! Runs Linux Mint with great driver support and really works well. Lightweight, small, inexpensive, low-power--this machine has a zillion uses. It has been reliable and really a pleasure to use. For quite a while I thought the NUCs were overpriced, but I am glad I decided to give it a try--they are a great value for the money.

The first thing to keep in mind is that this product does not come with a hard drive/operating system/ram. All 3 would need to be obtained additionally. If that is not something you are comfortable with doing, you may want to look elsewhere. It is very easy to take apart. 4 screws are on the bottom, that you need to remove. Once the top comes off, you can install your ram and hard drive. I had an extra SSD laying around (2.5 in) so I placed that in the computer. I then went out to Microsoft's website and downloaded the Windows 10 media creation tool which is pretty slick. I placed a the usb stick in another computer already running Windows. Once downloaded, the tool formatted and created a bootable Windows 10 installer. I then connected the power cord, usb keyboard and mouse and turned on the device. It powered up, detected the usb stick and began installing Windows 10. Install went quickly and I was up and running it less than 45 mins. The device has built in wifi, bluetooth, so you really only need the power cord. You also can mount it on the back of a TV using a VESA mount which is how mine is.What I use mine for is scanning files, Office, Internet, printing, It handles all those tasks very well. I do not play games on it so I cannot say how that experience would be. It fits my needs fine and I would recommend it.

This model has a lot bang for the buck. Pentium with 4 cores, and 4 3.0 USBs, SD slot and VGA. It's a Barebones, so I added 8gb ram and a 250gb SSD Drive. I bought Windows 7 and upgraded that to Windows 10.After all the trouble I had with W7, I'd have been better off just buying W10 for the extra $35. Windows 7 does not understand USB 3.0 and I had to copy my W7 disk to a bootable USB and inject the drivers for 3.0. That took a little bit of Googling and a lot of sitting around. I'd rather have just gotten the W10 disk.I use this primarily for Web Browsing, It play videos just fine. I have heard that the latest games will choke it, but I don't play games so that's no problem for me. It comes with a VESA mounting plate and I mounted on the back of an old widescreen monitor.

I bought this NUC together with the Kingston DDR3L 8GB Ram. Installed it together with a spare Intel 120 SSD and tried installing windows 7 on it. Its a nightmare to install Windows 7. The usb3 dont work without proper drivers installed into your windows 7 installer iso. I went ahead and install windows 8 instead. Windows 8 installer is straightforward though. I am updating the OS so that the windows 10 upgrade appears before i upgrade to windows 10.I owned a Brix N2807 i bought last year, comparing 2 NUC together, This NUC5PPYH beats N2807 hands down. Its much more responsive and faster. Build quality wise is excellent, installation of RAM and SSD is very hasslefree.I havent had the chance to plug it to my 4kTV to test the video@4k yet.1080p streaming and video playback so far didnt disappoint me.Do take note if you need to install windows 7, you need to read up the workaround from Intel or just google for "NUC5PPYH windows 7 Installation". There's a few guides that show you step by step what to do.

I have heard great things about the Intel NUC brand of computers but am having trouble finding anything nice to say about this one and I will be returning it tomorrow.Pros: Can't think of any.Cons: The fan is very loud, not what you want when you want to use it as an entertainment PC.There is no USB 2 support (other than on the motherboard and it is not a standard connection). Consequently, you will have a hard time installing Windows 7. Windows 10 installed with no problem.It boots very slowly even with a SSD.Most annoying of all, the USB 3 Ports have radio signals that interfere with your wireless keyboard and other USB 2 Devices. Had I done my research I would have known this. If you want your wireless keyboard, in my case the Logitech K400R to respond properly, you need to put the dongle on an extension cord to move it away from your NUC. Adding extension cables to a small form factor PC kind of defeats the purpose of owning one.Make sure you Google NUC and Wireless Keyboard Problems unless you want to move your dongle away from the computer.Please read the reviews on other sites before making the same mistake I did.

Marketing gimmick by Intel. This ain't no Pentium, it's really a weak Atom CPU masquerading as something it's not. Apps are not as snappy as you would expect, even with an SSD. You can get better for this price range, for example MSI Cubi-002BUS comes with an Intel Pentium 3805U which is a real Pentium CPU. Just do the research you will see for yourself. I wish I had done more research prior to buying.

Después de unas semanas de uso, puedo decir que este mini-PC cumple totalmente con mis expectativas. Lo completé con el disco duro y la memoria que se recomendaba en la propia página de AMAZON y le puse el Windows10 como sistema operativo. Mi idea era usarlo como ordenador de oficina, no como reproducor o centro multimedia. De este uso no puedo dar opinión, pero como ordenador le doy un 10. El procesador Intel es rapidísimo, el nuc no se calienta y hace apenas ruido (mi anterior torre acabó pareciendo un reactor) y ocupa un mínimo espacio en la mesa de despacho tras la pantalla (sí, no he tenido la experiencia intermedia del portátil para eliminar torre + pantalla). Mi total recomendación

E' da appena un mese che sto usando regolarmente questo Intel NUC5PPYH, quindi un lasso di tempo molto breve per trarre conclusioni sull'affidabilità a lungo termine, ma fin dal primo giorno ha dimostrato di essere un prodotto davvero serio, che fa puntualmente ciò che gli si chiede e senza strane sorprese. Inutile negare che nella scelta del mini-pc abbiano avuto un loro peso le recensioni clienti di Amazon, che nell'insieme sembrano più lusinghiere per il modello in esame, rispetto al fratellino più piccolo (il NUC5CPYH, Celeron Dual Core, da 135,00 Euro), ed effettivamente fino a questo momento non avrei elementi per contraddire i numerosi giudizi positivi.Ecco allora le mie valutazioni, che se da una parte tengono conto del rapporto qualità/prezzo e della destinazione d'uso di questo mini-pc, prevalentemente domestica e comunque per un utilizzo relativamente "leggero", dall'altra parte spero possano consentire ad altri utenti di farsi un'idea meno teorica e tecnica ma più concreta rispetto al suo comportamento reale.1) INGOMBRI ESTERNI, MATERIALI, E ASPETTO ESTETICO: 5 STELLE SU 5Innanzitutto correggiamo le misure riportate da Amazon, che stranamente si riferiscono agli ingombri della confezione, una bella scatoletta quasi cubica (cm. 13,7 x 12,5 x 11,5) di cartoncino blu, tutta ricoperta di scritte esplicative bianche. In realtà il Nuc è molto piccolo e misura appena 11,5 cm. di larghezza, per 11,0 di profondità, per 5,0 di altezza (compresi i piedini d'appoggio).La costruzione del case è tutta di plastica di ottima qualità e purtroppo la versione in alluminio è disponibile a partire dai modelli con processore i3 (mediamente cento Euro in più). L'aspetto è comunque elegante, con quel coperchio nero lucido che sì, attira polvere e ditate, ma ben si sposa con il resto di colore grigio. Sempre sul coperchio, posto quasi all'angolo sulla sinistra, si nota il bel tastino d'accensione cromato, che a pc acceso s'illumina d'un blu elettrico, e il cui azionamento è caratterizzato da una piacevole sensazione di solidità come negli apparecchi di qualità. Tra le altre cose mi è piaciuta la solidità monolitica nell'accoppiamento tra l'adattatore universale e le varie spine fornite in dotazione, che si bloccano con un rassicurante "click".2) HARDWARE DI FABBRICA, DIFFICOLTA' D'ASSEMBLAGGIO, E INSTALLAZIONE DEL SISTEMA OPERATIVO: 4 STELLE SU 5Il NUC5PPYH dispone di un processore Pentium Quad Core n3700 da 1,6 Ghz, di nuova generazione (è del 2015), e purtroppo di un solo slot per la RAM (max. 8GB, DDR3 low voltage, da 1,35 Volt). Frontalmente è servito da due porte usb (2.0 e 3.0) e un'uscita cuffie, mentre sul fianco sinistro si trova la fessura per inserire le SD card. Posteriormente troviamo invece altre due porte usb (entrambe 3.0) e una porta rispettivamente HDMI, VGA (per i monitor meno recenti), Ethernet, ottica, e infine la presa per l'alimentazione.Si tratta di un pc in configurazione "barebone", vale a dire senza hard-disk, memoria ram, e sistema operativo. Si tenga presente inoltre che il Nuc non possiede un lettore/masterizzatore CD/DVD, in quanto le sue dimensioni sono inferiori al diametro di un normale disco (che è di 12 cm.), ma è possibile collegare un lettore esterno tramite una delle quattro porte usb disponibili. Ho quindi provveduto a montare l'hard-disk, un SSD Samsung 850 EVO da 250gb, e il modulo ram, un Kingston da 8gb, il tutto gestito dal sistema operativo Linux Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. La difficoltà d'assemblaggio si può considerare praticamente inesistente, anche per un utente di livello medio-basso: è sufficiente svitare le quattro viti integrate nei piedini d'appoggio e tutto si risolve in due 'click', rispettivamente per il modulo ram e l'hard disk (che si fissa senza alcuna vite). Peraltro non esiste possibilità di sbagliare, perché gli incastri sono studiati per funzionare solo in un verso, e non nell'altro, ma a chi fosse completamente digiuno in materia consiglierei comunque di dare un'occhiata a qualche video su YouTube. Ad ogni modo avrei gradito un accesso completamente manuale, e non tramite l'uso del cacciavite, ma si tratta di inezie.Per quanto riguarda l'installazione del sistema operativo, ho preferito stavolta lasciar fare ad un tecnico di fiducia, il quale mi ha riferito di non aver incontrato alcuna difficoltà. Per chi volesse seguire questa strada, si è trattato di una spesa aggiuntiva di 50 Euro (con Linux, con Windows sarebbe stato qualcosa in più) ma ovviamente la cifra è indicativa e può variare da regione a regione e da persona a persona.3) SILENZIOSITA' E LIBERTA' DI POSIZIONAMENTO: 6 STELLE SU 5 (CON L'SSD)Vengo da una pessima esperienza con uno Zotac Zetabox CI320, che sarebbe stato un ottimo mini pc se non avesse avuto quello che ormai considero un grande difetto: era "fanless", cioè senza ventola di raffreddamento, una scelta progettuale che alla prova dei fatti, e forse anche dei tempi probabilmente non ancora maturi per questo tipo di apparecchi, almeno nel mio caso ha prodotto un aggeggio troppo imprevedibile e sensibile al posizionamento (troverete la mia esperienza nel profilo delle mie recensioni). Purtroppo mi ero fatto ammaliare da chi lodava questo tipo di mini-pc e faceva apparire quelli con la ventola troppo rumorosi. Niente di più falso per quanto riguarda l'esemplare di Nuc in mio possesso, e la sensibilità delle mie orecchie ovviamente, ma a parte chi si giovi di un orecchio bionico da sei milioni di dollari, come quello del colonnello Steve Austin della famosa serie tv anni settanta, onestamente oltre i 40-50 centimetri dall'apparecchio un individuo normale fatica a percepire il già insignificante ronzio della ventolina, fino al punto che a partire da un metro di distanza anche nel pieno silenzio della notte sarebbe assolutamente impossibile distinguere il Nuc dallo Zetabox. Il vantaggio della ventola però si traduce in termini di grande affidabilità e relativa insensibilità al posizionamento del mini-pc, per cui il vero problema del rumore sarebbe dato semmai dagli hard disk meccanici e soprattutto dai lettori/masterizzatori esterni, che al confronto sferragliano come locomotive a vapore. Da segnalare inoltre che la ventola del Nuc è regolabile dal bios fra tre livelli di velocità, mentre la temperatura media d'esercizio si è sempre mantenuta fra i 47° e i 53°gradi (nel mese di Ottobre, qui in Sardegna), con estremi che hanno raggiunto rispettivamente i c.ca 37° e 61° gradi. Inoltre il mini-pc è dotato di attacco vesa, per chi volesse posizionarlo nel retro dello schermo.4) RICEZIONE WIFI: 3 STELLE SU 5 (CON LINUX)Questo è appunto il piccolo "difetto" anticipato nel titolo, perché nel migliore dei casi il livello del segnale wifi risulta sempre una tacca al di sotto del massimo, anche avvalendosi di un ripetitore posto nelle immediate vicinanze. Se lo Zetabox aveva un'ottima ricezione grazie ad un'antenna esterna, il Nuc purtroppo ne è privo ma questo non significa che la ricezione sia pessima, né che la colpa sia tutta del Nuc, perché effettivamente Linux sotto questo aspetto mi sembra in generale meno efficace di Windows (mi riferisco in particolare a Xubuntu, che ho installato in dual boot nel mio netbook insieme a win7).Ecco allora come risolvere: è sufficiente dotarsi di un cavo Ethernet e collegare il mini-pc a questo apparecchio (TP-Link TL-WA855RE Range Extender Universale, 2 Antenne Esterne, che potete trovare qui su Amazon), per ottenere il massimo del segnale e della resa del Nuc.5) PRESTAZIONI: 5 STELLE SU 5 (CON IL SETUP MENZIONATO)Innanzitutto dal bios è possibile impostare la velocità di avvio del sistema, pertanto scegliendo l'opzione "fast boot" i tempi si sono ridotti di c.ca 8 sec. Grazie quindi all'SSD, e malgrado abbia appesantito il sistema operativo con oltre una ventina di programmi scaricati dall'Ubuntu Software Center, il NUC5PPYH si accende in appena 27 sec. (dalla pressione del tasto d'accensione alla comparsa del desktop), si riavvia in meno di 32 e si spegne in 6,5 sec., e il bello è che queste performance rimangono pressoché invariate nel tempo. Buona parte del merito spetta però a Linux, che a differenza di Windows conserva un rendimento costante, anche se probabilmente quest'ultimo nei primi periodi d'uso potrebbe spuntare tempi addirittura migliori. In questo contesto il browser Chromium (con ben sei estensioni installate) si avvia in meno di cinque secondi, Opera in poco più di tre e mezzo (ma prima dell'aggiornamento di Linux erano addirittura due-tre secondi), mentre Firefox (con dieci estensioni installate e alcune modifiche dei parametri interni per velocizzarlo) è al solito l'ultima ruota del carro con 12,5 sec. Anche la navigazione web è piuttosto fluida e veloce, con i tempi di apertura dei siti che possono variare, a seconda dei browsers utilizzati, dal "quasi istantaneo" (Chromium/Opera) a non meno di 1,5 sec. (Firefox). Inoltre Gmail si apre in meno di 7 sec. (con Chromium/Opera) e si gestisce in modo molto fluido e veloce, la navigazione di YouTube è altrettanto snella e i video, fluidissimi fino alla massima risoluzione (1080) con tutti i browsers, si aprono in c.ca 1,5 sec. La vera 'prova del fuoco' però è stata la navigazione con lo Street View di Google Maps, sufficientemente veloce e fluida da risultare assai piacevole. Nessun problema per quanto riguarda il multitasking e grazie agli 8Gb di ram ho potuto avviare e usare contemporaneamente tutti i browsers, aprire decine e decine di schede, e andare avanti per ore. Infine, per curiosità, ho provato alcuni videogames senza riscontrare problemi degni di nota: si tratta rispettivamente di un gioco di guida tipo "Mario Kart", uno sparattutto online tipo 'Quake', e un gioco di 'biliardo in 3d'. Immagino però che tutto ciò non sia paragonabile ai titoli più recenti, che per la verità nemmeno conosco.Non posso dire nulla invece per quanto riguarda l'utilizzo come media center "puro", perché films e musica preferisco di gran lunga fruirli tramite Smart Tv e hi-fi tradizionale, ma posso affermare che abbinare il Nuc ad un grande schermo e una buona Soundbar (guardare nel profilo delle mie recensioni) permette di realizzare un buon sistema home-video, relativamente economico e dagli ingombri ridotti all'osso, che trasforma i video online in una fonte alternativa di vero e proprio spettacolo.Note: nel mio esemplare non funziona il lettore delle SD card ma non escludo possa trattarsi di un problema con i drivers di Linux. Inoltre per ben tre volte in un mese è capitato che riavviando il mini-pc, dopo l'aggiornamento del sistema, la ventola girasse al massimo senza acquietarsi (questa volta sì, che faceva rumore) ma è bastato riavviare e tutto è tornato normale. Anche stavolta però non avrei elementi per incolpare solo il Nuc.VALUTAZIONE MEDIA COMPLESSIVA: 4,6 stelle su 5, arrotondata a 5 su 5.

I have this with me and is an excellent choice if you go for a low cost virtualization server. It has vt-x and aes-ni features. The main advantage is that the power consumption is very low compared to other NUC's or VM servers. I am running around 4 to 5 VMs on this without any issues and it's been running 24/7 for a month. Highest temperature it reported was 65° and we can adjust the internal fan speed threshold ao that we can reduce this temperature. This replaced my existing Banana pi server which didn't have Virtualization support. I am quite happy with the performance. I am running a firewall, a NAS, and an authentication server and still have 2gb/8gb ram available on this box.***UPDATE***So I have managed to gather a little more detail about power consumption. I am running multiple VM hosts (3nos) on this NUC and I was able to calculate the power usage using my WATTMETER. Here are the results.I run this continuously for approximately 23.25 days (min->hour->day conversion). The total watts consumed by the appliance was 4.95kW. So per day it consumed around 212 watts and per hour value will be around 9watts,ie, it consumes less power than a 10w CFL. I have an additional USB3 to GIG LAN connected all the time. This is way below any other x86/x64 computer available in the market. Only down point is max RAM we can install is 8GB.I wish if there is an option to upload images while editing so that I could post some images as proof.***Update***Pics attached

Ersetzt meinen Desktop-PC. Der NUC ist wirklich sehr klein. Arbeitsspeicher 8GB Kingston KVR16LS11/8 1,35V installiert und Samsung 750EVO 250GB.Ausführliches UEFI mit allen Einstellmöglichkeiten und Erklärungen (rechte Maustaste). UEFI war 7 Monate alt, Update unter Windows (von INTEL empfohlen) problemlos. Win10/64-Installation problemlos über USB-Stick. Alle Treiberpakete von der Intel-Seite installiert (Chipsatz, Graphik, Netzwerk, Audio, Wlan, Bluetooth, Infrarot, Serial IO, Trusted Execution).PCMark8 Work 1750 Punkte, 3DMark Skydiver 1920x1080: 1250 Punkte. Selbst Firestrike läuft durch allerdings nur mit 1 FPS :). Alle alten Benchmarks laufen durch (Futuremark 3DMark 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, Vantage, 2011). Selbst das gute alte Unreal Tournament 99 läuft ganz passabel. 4K-Videos mit Kodi ca. 20% CPU-Belastung (konst. Taktrate CPU 1,6Ghz eingestellt, dynamisch geht auch). Um die Gesamtleistung zu vergleichen installiere ich noch W7/64 und vergleiche mit W10. Ergebnis wird nachgereicht.Sehr leiser Lüfter, dreht kaum hoch (unhörbar bei 1500-2000 u/min, bei 3000 ganz leise hörbar, bei 6000 u/min deutlich hörbar, aber nur bei starker Benchmark-Belastung). Im BIOS lässt sich die Kühlmethode konfigurieren. Der Rechner steht neben meiner Maus.Durch Toslink sehr guter Sound mit den Edifier S730D von 2010 (Die Boxen doppelt so teuer wie der Rechner...lohnt sich aber). Die optische Schnittstelle bzw. Digital Audio-OUT ist bei mir obligatorisch, gibt es leider nur bei diesem NUC, NUC Celeron und NUCi7; ideal wäre der i3 mit optischer Schnittstelle. Das HDMI Signal zu splitten kommt für mich nicht in Frage.Hinten mehr USB-Schnittstellen wären gut (die 2 internen USB2 Schnittstellen nützen nicht viel weil ich das spezielle Kabel für die Mini-Stecker bisher nur in USA gefunden habe). Habe an eineder beiden hinteren USB-Schnittstellen einen alten USB2 Hub (passiv) angeschlossen (für Maus, Tastatur und Drucker), wird beim booten erkannt bzw. durchgeschleift ---> komme ins UEFI, Eingabe mit Maus und Tastatur über Hub möglich. An die zweite 2te hintere Schnittstelle kommt die externe 2,5" 2TB Datenplatte.Verpackung von Amazon miserabel, Service dafür vorbildlich.Der Minicomputer wurde ohne nennenswerte Dämmung in einen viel zu großen Karton gesteckt. Der Kingston Speicher war auch nicht dabei, laut Lieferschein schon...na toll. Der Karton war vom Volumen her 10x so groß (30x25x25cm) wie der Artikel (12x13x13) cm. Die "Dämmung" bestand aus einem einzigen Blatt Pappe. Hey....das ist ein Computer und keine Ananas.Der PC-Karton wurde an den Ecken eingedrückt und Klappergeräusche waren zu hören. Also zurückgeschickt und den fehlenden Speicher gemeldet. Speicher wurde anstandlos sofort zugeschickt, der Rechner war kurzfristig nicht mehr am Lager, nach 4 Tagen war er da. Beim Ersatzrechner das gleiche (gleicher Karton, 1 Blatt Pappe!!)...der Rechnerkarton war diesmal nicht eingedrückt aber das gleiche klappern (kam von einem Adapter)...trotzdem ausgepackt....alles ok.Die Lagerarbeiter von Amazon werden bald durch Robotor ersetzt, hoffentlich können die das dann besser (passendes Video: "Humans need not Apply" von CGP Grey).

Bonjour,Juste reçu, juste mis en place. Objectif petit PC secondaire et Media Center. Monté avec un SSD 240 G (65 € en 2"5) et 8G de Ram (je sais c'est beaucoup, mais vu le prix 30 € je ne vais pas me prendre la tête).Ca fait la config a moins de 300 € sans OS, sans clavier/souris. Mais petit, silencieux, efficace.Pour la mise en service, ouverture en 1 min, disque et ram installé en 2, passé en Windows 10 sans soucis, même pas un problème de Driver.Attention si vous voulez le passer sous windows 7, il faut passer par des bidouilles d'install a cause de la présence de l'usb 3, tout est sur le site intel. Donc bon, sous W10 (via une clé USB créé) pas de soucis. Pour linux, je n'ai pas essayé. Perso je suis passé par la génération d'image Windows 10 sur clé USB et installer sur le bidule. je n'ai plus qu'a entrer la clé de mon vieux Windows 7 que je n'avais pas encore passé en 10. et ca marche.Coté performance, les flux MKV 1080 passent, youtube aussi (en HD) pas de lenteurs particulières. Office 365 aussi. Navigation fluide.Je n'ai pas essayé de jeux, c'est pas trop pour ça que je l'ai pris.Sinon connectique, elle est complète, USB, VGA, HDMI donc je peux même recycle mon vieux moniteur, passer sur la TV... Vu la taille du bidule, on a plus qu'a le trimbaler en fonction des besoins. De plus le chargeur est tout petit.Pas de problème de chauffe, pas de bruit. Coté look, il n'est pas moche. Et en fait on s'en tape il est tellement petit que je le cache dans le placard, ou derrière une pile de Dvd.Petit reproche. On aurais plus avoir un slot mSata pour le SSD principal et garder le 2"5 pour un DD "classic"... mais là je chipote.
