Q: what makes this 80$ more expensive than a standard steel square?

Woodpeckers is a gadget-y company that’s trying to generate a bit of snob appeal. I only own two of their products. However, an accurate square, in my opinion and probably yours, is a must have for any serious wood worker. Generally, two or three - different sizes. I have thrown away every single “square” that I’ve owned because none was square. With the exception of this one ($89), my Starrett (over $100), and a Japanese Shinwa (I forget the $). This one and the Shinwa are machined from one piece of metal so no moving parts. I like that. The Starrett company does good work, too. Still… the bottom line: Precision = $$. Your choice, my friend.

Q: Can anyone explain why a little piece of red anodized aluminum costs $104?!

Not worth $100+. But: 1. It costs about $70 on the Woodpecker site. 2. I do a lot of woodworking and this is one of about three main tools I use. It does more than be just a triangle/square. Also comes in a stainless steel version. Check the video at Woodpecker.

Q: For the little scribe holes What pencils work well with this product?

most any smaller mechanical pencil will work. Q: Does this square come in a 6 or 12 inch size

Aluminum version only comes in 4-inch. The stainless steel version comes in 4-inch and 6-inch.
