Hunting the hard way
This is the best book I have ever read on bow hunting. Howard Hill was not just an amazing shot, but alsoa great story teller. I was hooked after the first chapter, and could not put the book down, It took less than 2 days to read. I have read it several times since, it never fails to make want to pick up my bow and shoot.I am looking foward to getting Wild Adventure.

Howard Hill, a latter day Robin Hood?
Howard Hill is almost the mythical Archer of the past 50 or 60 years. Many of the modern American (and even some UK) Archers cite Hill as one of their Archery Inspirations.Wanting to read something of the man, I purchased this particular book, for no other reason than it was by Howard Hill. I am an Archer of the modern era. I started with the Olympic Recurve, and have since moved onto the well Engineered Compound bow. That said, I still wish to go back to the traditions of old style Archery, and Howard Hill is one of those famous names. Baring in mind the book was written for a previous generation, and that it was also written from a hunting background, some of the ideas and themes in the book are not ones that a "modern" European would entertain for their sport. Equally, the book is well written with, even with the passage of time, many relevant passages of information specifically with reference to archery form and style.Would I recommend it - yes and no?If you are looking for something modern, with up to date coaching tips and form - well then NO.But if you want advice from a man who had made his sports almost an art form. A man who has become legendary for his skill. A man with an obvious love for, not only skills, but the wish to encompass others with his love of Archery, then this may well be the book for you

An excellent book by a great archer who according to the book hunted almost every available to be hunted..3 stars because I dislike the writing style, which boils down to "the white man is naturally superior in all that he does", which is typical of books of this date. If you can get past that it is a great book.

Shortly after reading this I had a long bow in my hand, and found it shot smoothly and accurately.
Jerry Hill seems to have covered most of the aspects of long bow use. We cannot hunt with a bow in the uk, so its servesto remind us of the way things were.
