Description

  • Why Use PropSpeed: Boat-owners, captains and marine surveyors all agree that a vessel that’s just been launched with a clean bottom and clean running gear will run at peak-performance. Unfortunately that peak-performance running time can be short-lived due to the heavy build-up of marine growth. PropSpeed will assist in maintaining maximum vessel performance while allowing the running gear to do what it was designed for: Slice through the water with the least amount of friction generating the greatest amount of thrust.
  • The Barnacle: Tiny barnacles and marine organisms that attach themselves to a boat’s propeller and running gear can wreak havoc on a boat’s performance, fuel efficiency and maintenance requirements turning the joy of boat ownership into a nightmare. These barnacles, algae and marine worms can grow right on the paint, and some actually eat through the paint and attached themselves to the underlying bronze exposing it to the additional corrosive effects of saltwater.
  • Cavitation: Propellers move a vessel forward by pushing water aft in a spiral funnel pattern. Fouled propellers rapidly loose their efficiency by inducing air bubbles into the water funnel. This is known as “cavitation.” Additionally, fouled propellers can go out-of-balance causing undesirable vibration, resulting in increased wear on the shaft, cutlass bearing, transmission and other engine and drive-train parts. This too can substantially increase maintenance cost
  • PropSpeed Benefits: PropSpeed is the most cost effective way to keep your boat running at peak performance. Boat owners and captains report 10% fuel savings and increases of up to 3 knots in speed over the life of a PropSpeed application. Most marine-growth has a difficult time adhering to the coating and simply slides off the running gear every time a vessel runs. Additionally, PropSpeed is environmentally friendly. It contains no toxic chemicals or harmful pollutants. It works because it’s slick, not because it’s toxic likely most bottom paint
  • PropSpeed is Green!: PropSpeed works because it’s slick; not because it’s toxic. PropSpeed does not contain any harmful chemicals or heavy metals that pollute and destroy some of the Earth’s most pristine waters. With PropSpeed on-board you are doing your part to help preserve and keep the oceans and waterways clean for future generations.

New performance coating for propellers Unlike conventional antifouling paint which does not adhere well to underwater metal, or when it does, reduces performance, this unique, environmentally-friendly, two-part coating system bonds to your boat's propeller and running gear with no recoating needed for a year or more. Its "foul release" formulation reduces drag by preventing marine growth from attaching, resulting in fuel savings, and improved top end speed and performance. Easily applied by an experienced applicator, well versed "do-it-yourselfers" can also apply this coating by following the included application guide

RECENT PROP SPEED PROBLEM

I have been using PropSpeed for over 15 years. First found it at the London Boat Show in 2005, brought it back to the States and have never had a problem- until today. I buy a quarter kit and share it with two other sail boats. Been doing this for at least 10 years to reduce costs. As I was preparing to mix the etching material another boast owner approached me and told me he had difficulty with the product in that it set up too quickly. His description made no sense to me so I continued mixing. Mix the etching compound for about 15 mins - no clumping noted- texture was uniform and I then added the catalyst and mix for another few minutes. As I applied the compound to the shaft it became quite thick. I remixed and did the prop. The consistency became like mud but I was able to apply two coats. The product was drying rapidly and I applied the topcoat. It appears to be ok. I moved 20 feet to the next boat and the etching compound was like thick "silly putty" and unusable . Air temp 59f/15C, wind about 5 knots, humidity about 50%. The problem I experienced was exactly the same as described by the aforementioned boater. What's going on? We launch these boats next week and I am having serious reservations concerning my prop and am considering removing the product.
