What it IS and is NOT.
The actual work on display and the thoughtfulness of the approach and the fidelity to the source is remarkable. this was CLEARLY a work of love and deserves all the praise it gets on that front. That said, while the initial mechanics are reasonably easy, they get layered and intricate very quickly, but as this accurately reflects the source materials, that's appropriate. The game is NOT a D&D style RPG, at all, it is deliberate and methodical, your characters are not solo, they are linked intrinsically to a House, and most resolutions are less about specific die rolls than about both player and game master negotiating the abilities, and attributes which will be in play. Again this is HIGHLY thematic, but it is not quick and requires a solid understanding of what the game specifically IS and IS NOT in order to get the most out of it.

This rpg is amazing
The Dune RPG is such a cool game, definitely more of a narrative based concept. If you’re looking for lots of combat (like dnd), this isn’t the game for you. It’s much more narrative focused where combat isn’t the main focus. If you want to tell cool Dune stories with your friends, this game is for you. The game book is especially high quality, beautiful layout and game content.

Make the Landsraad Great Again
I like the cover, and who doesn't like the Harkonnens? It's a beautiful, bold cover. The Star Trek 2d20 book is okay, but this version seems cleaner and better. There seems more intent towards creating playable characters in terms of character qualities rather than quantities (stats). The characters have more ambition and drive in the Dune universe, where the Starfleet characters are more dull by definition. On the bad side, I think maybe the Bene Gesserit are the safest I've ever seen in the Dune universe (almost nothing about Eugenics? "emotional manipulation" and consorts without sex?) but I suppose this is the world that we live in, and trigger warnings abound in the text.I'm not sure about the Atreides variant, but the Harkonnen book (the Amazon exclusive) comes with a code to get the PDF for "free" at the Modiphius web store. Maybe the Corrino cover also has a code? Or the normie cover? I have no idea.(The Atreides cover is exclusive to the Modiphius store, so getting one secondhand through an Amazon web seller might not get you a code for pdf downloads? You'd want to check on that before spending extra for something related to the Atreides, although perhaps I say this as someone who chose the Harkonnen cover.)The big issue here is that the setting is weighed down by the Atreides. Either you abolish Muad'dib, or you play as fleas on the coat of a grizzly bear. The former is rather difficult, to rewrite your own Messiah. The latter is, in my opinion, rather dull and boring. So, for a good sandbox, you might want to rewrite the history. Perhaps Lady Jessica did provide the female Atreides heir (instead of annoying Paul) that might be wedded to Feyd Rautha, and then go from there. At least it gives you a chance to write something memorable.

Good rules, great production, limited options
The 2d20 rules are fine, and the book is gorgeous. If you want to play House Atreides on Arrakis, you're good to go. If you want to play someone or somewhere else, well, there's not a lot for you in this book. The first supplement will be about Arrakis, so there's more of that of you want it. If you want to play a sci-fi game in the Dune universe though, you'll have to come up with almost everything yourself. There are very brief descriptions of Caladan and Geidi Prime and a handful of other planets that appear in the books, but not enough to be able to base a campaign there without you doing most of the work. This isn't necessarily bad, I personally love doing that sort of thing. But know going in that this book allows you to be a Harkonnen or an Atreides, and if you want to be anything else, you're on your own. So, fear not. Fear is the mind-killer.

So gorgeous!!
I hadn't heard of this specific Dune RPG before until someone on RPGGeek posted this deal on a Collector's Edition, hardcover book for under $20.+ The book is absolutely gorgeous.Realize, this is one(1) of three(3) alternative collector's covers for the same 2D20 core rule book.+ The Harkonnen Red with Gold is beautiful and 1/4th the MSRP...at least! If buying the Atreides cover (I heard only available from publisher's webstore), I think the book runs over $100, before shipping.+ The interior is also beautiful with wonderful art.+ A lot of people who have read through this and commented that this is a very nice, streamlined version of the 2d20 system.OVERALL:I got this since I'm a Dune fan to supplement my reading of the Deluxe Edition Hardcover of the first novel in the series ( ISBN-13 : 978-0593099322 ).I'm starting to get into solo games and found someone who posted a solo play of this book on RPGGeek. So much to look forward to and well worth getting at this price.

Excellent Quality Book
Excellent looking book with gorgeous art and design. Never played a game from this publisher but rules look solid and the playstyle has a very narrative feel to it.Only negative is the book arrived with a minor mashed damage on one corner like it was thrown into box and landed that corner first. Otherwise beautiful purchse.
