Darling (& expensive) magazine
**I wrote the following five (!) years ago and things have changed. My youngest, now six, developed a profound and severe developmental disability (called Penelope Syndrome or ESES), so in many cognitive respects he is still a baby / early toddler. We have been getting Babybug magazine for five+ years, and I am so grateful. He LOVES it. He lights up when I say "Kim and Carrots!" (Kim is a toddler and Carrots her stuffed bunny: they have a little story in the beginning of nearly every issue.) For whatever reason my son is fascinated with Kim and Carrots. Additionally, my son really, deeply responds to the melodic, rhythmic nature of the rhymes / brief stories. I find them (stories / rhymes) very easy to read in a sing-songy voice -- they are pleasing to the ear, and he giggles and claps and tries to turn the page or prevent me from turning a page so we can reread. For him, I read each page twice, and then the whole story / rhyme all over again, at least one (usually two - three) more time. I don't know if the repetition might help him but he certainly likes it, and I do know that the repetition is good for him, allows his brain time to process what we're hearing. I like the different artwork but I don't think it makes a difference to him (hard to tell). This is the only children's mag to which we still subscribe: the others really held no appeal for him. We'll be getting this magazine f-o-r-e-v-e-r, or so it feels. I'm glad it exists because he really loves it, esp. Kim and Carrots.(old, previous review)My children (ages 3 and 1) both love books and we're regular library visitors; I thought getting magazines would be a terrific supplement. Well ... thus far I'm the one who's getting the most from the magazines. I don't know if the characters, illustrations, stories, aren't appealing to my children. ??? Of our three subscriptions, the children seem to be most interested in Wild Animal Baby -- not this or Click. (and Click is by far the least favorite) I still think Babybug is cute, albeit expensive (seriously, esp. given my children's [lack of] interest). If I'd known my children's reaction(s), I most likely wouldn't have ordered it.

We ordered this children's magazine for one of our great grand-daughters who is 2 yrs old
We ordered this children's magazine for one of our great grand-daughters who is 2 yrs old. She loves her magazine!! When it arrives, she is so excited & can't wait to look at. Then she can't wait until it is read to her - again & again.. She looks at it repeatedly until her next issue arrives. We have just ordered a second subscription to this magazine for another great grand-daughter nearing 2 yrs. of age. There doesn't seem to be very many such magazines out there for toddlers but this is a really nice one. It's constructed from materials that are tear-resistent so they get lots of use out of it. It helps to encourage their interest in reading - which is so important for the rest of their lives. Highly recommend!

Whether this magazine is recommended for a three year old
This subscription was a gift to my granddaughter who is nearly three years old and lives in the US. I chose this magazine becuase we had a subscription to Babybug, Ladybug and Cricket in the International school I worked in here in Brazil, and the pre- school teachers found it very good for this age group becuae of the variety of items, stories, puzzles, non fiction etc. I haven't yet heard her reaction to it because the first issue just arrived.

Everybody likes to get mail...
Great structure for learning. Several of the story themes repeat across issues, including characters and puzzle types. This offers continuity for our little one. She flips to the back cover immediately on getting a new issue to see what to look for. She does the matching games quicker every time.Maybe more than anything, she loves seeing something for her in the mail. So excited every time she gets a new one. She wants them read to her until she has practically memorized them, often filling in the rhyming words. We just moved up to LadyBug, but she still grabs these some times at story time. Great little magazine for toddlers.

Really wonderful for little ones
When my kids were small, we loved Babybug and looked forward to every issue. So sweet and fun, we read them again and again. A magazine subscription is such a great gift in this time of disposable consumerism - resist the accumulation of plastic junk!

Makes my Granddaughter very happy
One thing all children love is getting mail, so right off the bat this subscription makes my granddaughter, Charlie, jump for joy. The sturdy construction means she can bring the book with her without fear of it becoming tattered like a traditional magazine. Her big sister and parents read her the stories and she pretend to read them to her 'baby'.All in all, this is a wonderful investment that brings joy over and over again

So good!
We love these! We recommend ordering it until 4 years old, maybe even slightly older. We do not recommend getting the Ladybug, especially at 3 years of age. It's lame. Babybug is so good and my daughter looks forward to the monthly delivery!
