Is there a battery included?

No, the battery is not included. It is only a new shell. You can use the back of the original to keep the Cadillac emblem. They go togher just like the OEM.

why do you have to 'reprogram' it if you are moving all the components into the new shell, you are not altering anything but the outside cover?

You don’t have to reprogram just pop the old shell on and put the new shell on. Mine worked perfectly

Has anyone tried placing the buttons from this one into an oem remote? the only thing wrong with my fob is worn out buttons.

I'm not sure, we used the entire fob. Mine was really worn out.

Is this fob compatible with the xt5? the descriptions (top and bottom) are contradictory. the top shows it is and the bottom doesn't show that it is.

If your key looks like this it is compatible. This is just the cover and not the RFID Chip. You have to remove the RFID from your old cover to put in the new covers.
